Scene Set For Epic Shootout Showdown

THE final field of four has been announced for this Thursday night's $25,000 to-the-winner Group 3 Shootout (515m) at Sandown Park.

HOOKED On Scotch will tackle Good Odds Harada, Whiskey Riot and Mepunga Maggie in Thursday night's Group 3 Shootout (515m) at Sandown Park.

10 nominations were received for the $25,000 to-the-winner event on Monday morning, with perhaps the most notable omission star NSW sprinter Pindari Express for Tracey Scruse.

Always a highlight leading into the TAB Melbourne Cup, this Thursday's four-dog clash sets up as a mouthwatering spectacle where Jason Thompson's sprinter of the moment Hooked On Scotch will start all-the-rage from box three.

Considered the fastest greyhound in the land, Hooked On Scotch won the group 3 Speed Star at the venue in mid-September in stunning fashion, running a sublime 29.11.

Since that dazzling victory, the son of Barcia Bale has gone close to taking all before him, including the State of Origin series at Angle Park which cemented his Shootout berth.

Winner of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup and Group 2 Geelong Cup since that barnstorming State of Origin win, Hooked On Scotch lines up against three highly gifted sprinters on Thursday night, including Million Dollar Chase hero Good Odds Harada, drawn box five.

Making his Sandown debut, the Frank Hurst-trained star was gallant when finishing fourth in Saturday night's Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows, copping severe interference heading through the first corner when making a challenge.

Whiskey Riot finished third in Saturday's Topgun and takes his place in the Shootout from box one in red-hot form for Anthony Azzopardi, while the remaining spot goes to Jeff Britton's Mepunga Maggie, the daughter of Barcia Bale a nine-length Sandown winner two runs back in 29.26, defeating Topgun winner Get It Gizmo. She'll exit box seven.

It's shaping up as a terrific spectacle – bring on Thursday night.
