Scene Set For Thrilling National Derby Final

HUGELY exciting sprinter Zipping Moose returned from a nine week break between runs to set the time-standard for next Saturday night's Group 1 Ladbrokes National Derby Final (520m).

A son of Aston Dee Bee and Crafty Lady, a littermate to National Futurity fastest qualifier Aston Sapporo, Zipping Moose made full use of box one to defeat Tyler Durden by a length in a slick 29.71.

It was the Luke Adams-trained youngster's first start since scoring at Wentworth Park in early November, the victory extending his impressive resume to four wins and a second from five starts.

And while Zipping Moose's win was full of merit, so was the performance of runner-up Tyler Durden, the Jeff Britton-trained son of Fernando Bale in the hands of Chris Carl for his Sydney campaign.

Britton will also be represented in next week's finale by Weblec Jet which scorched to victory in the final heat in 29.79.

In the hands of Alan Proctor while in Sydney, Weblec Jet carved out flying sectionals to hand Britton two live chances in his quest for a third National Derby triumph, following previous wins with Pacific Sky and Axel Footluce.

Another Victorian stamped his mark on this year's Derby when Eagles Nest Egg scored over Do It by a length in 29.91.

Tackling the series without the benefit of a trial at the track, Eagles Nest Egg, trained by Brendan Pursell, has drawn box eight for the final, while Weblec Jet will exit trap seven.

Heat two went to Queenslander Rowdy Roddy for Rob Tyler in 29.80 while heat three went the way of Teddy The Bear at big odds for Alan Proctor in 30.01.

Serious Object defeated an erratic Road Spike in heat four to progress in 30.10 while heat five went to Supersound for Marie Burton in 30.01.

Tab.com.au have installed Zipping Moose favourite for the final at $3.20 slightly ahead of Tyler Durden at $3.50.

Next in line is Weblec Jet at $5.00 with Eagles Nest Egg $5.50.
