Sennachie Sets Track Record In Cup Romp

THURSDAY'S Group 1 Brisbane Cup Final at Albion Park was billed as an epic contest and it didn't disappoint with the race won by Sennachie in track record time.

VICTORIAN powerhouse Sennachie lowered the Albion Park 520 metre track record with a breathtaking performance in Thursday night's Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup Final.

Taking almost half-a-length off Mepunga Blazer's track record with a stunning 29.38 romp in the $250,000 to-the-winner feature, Sennachie was simply awesome in the flagship event for trainer Steve White, blowing his rivals away with sustained speed straight from box rise.

Now a winner at 12 of his 20 career starts, Sennachie, a son of Fernando Bale and Rhonda Rocks, landed the Group 2 Queensland Derby at Albion Park in May, running his rivals ragged on that occasion in an electrifying 29.52.

Finishing second in Thursday night's Group 1 decider was race favourite Black Opium for trainer Tony Brett, the daughter of Black Magic Opal's third runner-up performance at Group 1 level.

While just under four lengths separated first and second, it was just another half-a-length to third placegetter Nangar Diva, running a bottler of a race for trainer Dennis Barnes.

But all the plaudits were with the winner, turning in a mesmerising performance to land Queensland's richest greyhound event.

For trainer Steve White, it was another victory at Group 1 level, having put the polish previously on Hall of Famer Paua To Burn, a multiple winner at the highest level, and former top-liner Tommy Brislane, winner of the Dapto Megastar in 2014.

“I'm ecstatic,” White beamed.

“Last week was a good run and I said he'd be better this week. He's won it really well, he had to lead and now they tell me he's run a track record, that's just phenomenal.

“I've always said he's one of the best dogs coming up.

“He's got the world at his feet … he loves this track … they'd want to put on a few more races worth $250,000 to the winner!”
