Sennachie Youngsters Set Tongues Wagging

HIGHLY promising Sennachie bitch Select Moment could be sent to Steve White for a campaign in Victoria if she improves as much as her Queensland trainer Gary Mackay believes.

The Sennachie-Paua To Admit bitch scorched to an eight-length maiden heat win in 30.48 at Ipswich last week and runs in the final there on Saturday night.

Champion Sennachie is in the spotlight with three winners in maiden heats over 350m at Grafton on Tuesday night, littermates Shanghai Gold and True Blue Moon (Sennachie-Shanghai Lil) for Reg Gardoll, and Lee's Bonus (Sennachie-Black Lee Bonus) for Evelyn Harris. All were first starters.

Mackay is in raptures about Select Moment even though she had finished seventh at her first two race starts.

“I know how good she is and she had no luck in either of those first two starts,” said Mackay.

“I've always had a huge opinion of her and believe there is plenty of further improvement in her.

“If she takes that improvement, I could approach Steve White (Sennachie's studmaster and former trainer) to give her a try at some nice races in Victoria.”

Mackay bought two pups from the Sennachie and Paua To Admit litter from his good friend Dave Jones.

“I've been friends with Dave for about five years after buying a dog from him,” said Gary. “I bought two bitches from this litter and let Dave pick them out for me.

“The other bitch is on season at the moment and will not race for a few months.”

Select Moment was on season back in November and Gary believes it has been the making of her.

“She is one of those bitches who, the harder I work her, the better she goes,” he said.

“I stepped her straight up from 288 metres to the 520 metres and I think a few thought I was mad to do so, but I know the bitch and the 30.48 run proved she was ready.

“That time did not surprise me at all.”

Mackay also trains classy Fernando Grand a Group 2 Queensland Derby and Listed Rising Stars finalist at Albion Park.

“Select Moment ran him to a half length recently at Ipswich,” said Gary. “And, she will run all day.”

Gary already has a potential broodbitch. Select Moment's mother Paua To Admit is the dam of Paua Of Buddy (11 wins, $76,000), Paua Of Oscar (22 wins, $67,000) and Paua Of Jamie (12 wins, $40,000) etc.

Grafton's four 350m Maiden heats were dominated on Tuesday night by Sennachie offspring.

Reg Gardoll's pair were impressive.

Shanghai Gold won by seven lengths in 20.54 on a bog track, and True Blue Moon led throughout to win in 20.25.

Evelyn Harris' Lee's Bonus went 20.63 in the wet leading throughout.

Interestingly, all three maiden winners are by Sennachie and out of a daughter of Magic Sprite.
