Shall Not Gives Hill, Sultana Origin Double

TERRY Hill was handing out compliments all day Sunday and had every right to following the dazzling victory by his star straight tracker Shall Not.

TERRY Hill was handing out compliments all day Sunday and had every right to.

Terry owns Shall Not which brilliantly won the Straight of Origin (366m) at Capalaba to give he and trainer Darren Sultana back-to-back victories in the glamour race.

They won in 2022 with Mr. America which ran 19.54 to down Impact.

“I brought along a dozen people to Capalaba and what a show the club and Racing Queensland put on,” said Hill.

“And, that's not just because we won.”

But Terry had most praise for Sultana.

“The pressure was right on him today,” said Terry.

“What a great job he has done.

“The pressure was on to win two in a row. The pressure was on him with a $1.40 favourite, and the pressure was on him to bring him to Queensland to perform.”

Rugby league great Hill has been in Queensland all week as “captain” of the NSW Blues Origin team that copped a beating at Albion Park on Thursday night.

But when Terry's straight track “superstar” Shall Not (Barcia Bale-Hillary) was drawn perfectly to give him consecutive Straight Of Origins, he warmed to the task to give the Maroons a lesson in straight track racing.

And, Shall Not did not let the Blues team down in 2023.

He used his rails draw perfectly, eventually ending up coming down the centre of the track to score in an unbeatable 19.40.

The Capalaba track record is 19.22 held by Leeroy Rogue.

Shall Not, winner of his past 12 up the straight at Richmond and Capalaba, scored by two lengths over Panama Canal with Lose Your Cool a length and a half away in third.

It took Shall Not's career to 43 starts for 27 wins and nine placings for $82,000 in stakes.

Sultana was a much relieved man after the win.

“We brought the dogs here on Saturday and stayed at a nearby motel,” he said.

“But, at 3am today people were slamming motel room doors, talking on their phones just outside our room … you get the picture.

“It is hard enough to travel with a dog let alone those things happening.”

Darren was looking forward to the trip back to Sydney being “a breeze”.

Winning a second Straight Of Origin will always lift your spirits.

“I thought after Mr America retired last year, ‘where and I going to find a replacement'?,” he said.

“How was I to know it would turn up on my doorstep almost immediately.”

Immediate plans are to simply head back to Richmond.

“There are no feature races coming up for him,” said Darren.
