She's A Pearl On The Mend For MDC Return

CHAMPION greyhound She's A Pearl is on the mend after a minor setback and she's on track to defend her TAB Million Dollar Chase crown.

She's A Pearl hasn't raced since claiming the $1 million winner's purse in the world's richest greyhound race, coming on season following the May 7 final.

She was set to return in a Goulburn heat of the Southern Stars late last month but was scratched 24 hours out due to a slight tear in a hip support muscle.

"Pearl's progressing along," said Punters HQ syndicate manager Joe Lannutti said.

"We're not going to rush her; everything is positive at the moment and we're looking to the Goulburn heats on August 26.

"That's the goal and we're confident all will be well, ready to defend her title."

For whatever reason, should something go wrong and She's A Pearl not book her place at Goulburn for September's Million Dollar Chase semi-finals, connections would still be able to qualify through the TAB Million Dollar Chase city qualifiers, at Wentworth Park on September 10.

The final is to be held at the historic venue on September 24 and race sponsor TAB.com.au has listed the daughter of Aston Dee Bee as the $4.20 favourite to become the first dog to win two editions of the world's first race to offer a $1 million winner's prize.
