Showtime Jack Sets Gosford MDC Benchmark

SHOWTIME Jack emerged as the surprise packet from Tuesday night's Gosford qualifiers of the TAB Million Dollar Chase with a powerhouse 29.31 heat victory.

And it was a performance that didn't overly surprise the son of Unlawful Entry's trainer Jack Tatian, well aware the raw ability the MDC hopeful possesses.

"The time tonight didn't really surprise me … he's starting to put his mind on the job now," Tatian said.

"I trialled him here at Gosford early on and his run home time was sensational. It was just that early section that let him down. But with more racing he's starting to find that length or two early now."

Tuesday's Gosford success extended Showtime Jack's record to seven wins from 25 starts, included in those performances two blistering sub-30 Wentworth Park triumphs.

"If you go through his form you'll see he's come up against some very fast dogs along the way," Tatian said.

Showtime Jack will exit box eight in next Tuesday's Gosford MDC Final where first, second and third book a spot in the semi-finals of the $1 million to-the-winner series at Wentworth Park on October 9.

The opening Gosford heat on Tuesday night was won by No More Partying for George Borg in 29.46 while the second qualifier went the way of Vamos Penny in come from behind fashion for Kerry Drynan in 29.50.

The fourth and final heat was won by Bland Purr for Peter Spiteri in 29.38, continuing the daughter of Let It Develop's remarkable spate of recent form.
