Sire Selected For Wow She's Fast's First Mating

THE sire for greyhound racing's greatest earner Wow She's Fast has been decided after the retired superstar recently came on season.

THE hugely anticipated first mating for Wow She's Fast has been confirmed, with the world's greatest prizemoney winner to be paired with US sire Bella Infrared.

After returning from an "unforgettable" expedition to the Super Bowl earlier this week, Kel Greenough continued the American theme when confirming the sire selection for Wow She's Fast.

"Wow She's Fast had her progesterone test this morning and she's due to get to get mated in the next couple of days," Greenough told The Greyhound Recorder on Thursday.

"It's going to be Bella Infrared.

"He was Tyrone's (Whittington, owner) choice. Bella Infrared is an American sire and he's been gone for a while, so Tyrone has gone back in time.

"Bella Infrared did produce Aussie Infrared, who's been a good sire and there's only limited semen available."

Since Wow She's Fast was retired after contesting her third Phoenix in December, Melbourne Cup runner-up Big Energy, a son of Aussie Infrared and grandson of Bella Infrared, became the headline act in the Greenough kennel.

Big Energy was forced out of the Australian Cup series after sustaining a injury in the G1 Temlee, with Greenough effusive in his praise of grandson Brad for identifying the issue, while the champion trainer and wife Jacqui were overseas.

"We were really lucky our grandson found the injury, which was near the triangle muscle," he said.

"Brad spoke to me about it and took Big Energy to the vet, who confirmed the problem. It was an injury that could have ended his career if he'd raced again with it.

"It was fairly significant but it's healing up nicely.

"I think we should be right for the Sandgroper, but he's no chance for the Perth Cup."
