Sky Wave Set For Origin

VETERAN trainer Vic Sultana had a last minute change of heart, after plenty of prompting from his son Darren.

VETERAN trainer Vic Sultana had a last minute change of heart, after plenty of prompting from his son Darren, with speedy bitch Sky Wave that could earn him a huge pay day at Albion Park this Thursday night.

The daughter of Don't Knocka Him-Elle Lezah led throughout last Thursday night to win a 520m Top Grade beating Perth Cup winner Trouper Monelli and classy Bubble Guppy in 29.81 equal with Jury in the Group 1 Winter Cup final as the best of the night.

That win came on top of fast FFA wins at Wentworth Park at her previous two starts and forced her way into the $50,000 State of Origin Sprinters Series this week.

“Dad's a bit of a stick-in-the-mud but I convinced him to send the bitch up to Tony Apap for a trial on the track and a race there to get her into the State Of Origin,” said Darren.

All this despite the fact the Group 1 Winter Cup series was on at the same time.

“And, there should be further improvement in her from last week's run,” said Darren of the bitch, a winner of 17 of her 26 race starts.

“Gee, she has been a good buy for Chenhao “Vince” Sun her owner. He bought two of the litter from their breeder Ian Rose up at Taree after they were broken in and paid $10,000 for the pair of them.

“This bitch has continued to improve and improve with racing.”
She has now won $84,000 in stakes and is a provincial Group winner.

Darren worked hard on his father to combine this week's race at Albion Park with a visit to Suncorp Stadium for the third and final rugby league State of Origin.

“But in the end he told me I should go,” said Darren. “I didn't need any convincing.”

Jury Juggernaut To Continue?
STEVE Williams is loving it.

The born and bred NSW Blues supporter now lives at Hervey Bay and he has become one of the country's foremost greyhound breeders and owners.

His latest star Jury led throughout for trainer Tony Brett to win the Group 1 Winter Cup at Albion Park last Thursday.

And, with that victory, Jury was one of the first selected for the State Of Origin greyhound series at Albion Park this week.

Tony Brett is as one eyed a Queensland Maroons supporter as anyone can be.

He has made sure Williams has been, until this year, been on the receiving end of a great deal of ribbing over the Blues' lack of success in Origin.
Williams cannot wait for Thursday night.

“It's because Tony will lead out Jury as a Maroon in the sprinters Origin,” said Williams.

“But then he will have to change into a Blues outfit to lead out Ebby Ripper in the stayers Origin.

“I can't wait to be there to see Brett all decked out in Blue.

“It will be one of those moments to savour.”
