Slick Trial Has Coonamble Kid In New Sensation Mix

CHRIS Brydon has sent his star sprinter Coonamble Kid to Penrith trainer Michael Hodges to run through the G3 New Sensation (520m) series at Wentworth Park.

Coonamble Kid (My Redeemer-My Kinloch) has drawn box six in the opening New Sensation heat on Wednesday and Chris believes he is a great chance.

“He is coming off third in the Maitland Gold Cup which was a great run, and he has trialled well at Wenty last week,” said Chris.

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK WEDNESDAY

He went through sectionals of 5.49, 13.83, 17.95 and the come home was 12.09 for an overall time of 30.04.

“I would prefer him off an inside draw, but I've gone through the form and he is not too badly boxed out there,” said Chris.

“The seven likes to get off a bit.”

Coonamble Kid has an imposing record of 43 starts for 18 wins and 13 placings for stakes of $52,000.

“I had to give him his chance in this age restricted race, but he will come home to Queensland after this series and head towards a number of big races up here,” said Chris.

Brydon shifted his family to Churchable in Queensland a year ago with the hope that racing would boom and the planned new racetrack at Purga, outside Ipswich, would be built.

“It's been a great move and we are really happy up here,” said Chris.

“I'm getting a nice team together.

“But, I'd be happier if the new track was up and racing.

“Prizemoney here is fantastic.”

Coonamble Kid will head back to Queensland with a Young Guns at Capalaba and the Group 3 Rockhampton Cup targets.

“Can you believe the Bundy, Rocky and Townsville Cups are worth $75,000 to the winners,” said Chris.

“Races in Victoria like the Horsham Cup, Ballarat Cup and the like are not worth as much and the quality of opposition down there is much stronger.”
