Slick Trial Has Sammy All Set For Sprinters Cup

A 25.30 trial has given the Dart kennel confidence with Typhoon Sammy ahead of the heats of the Grafton Sprinters Cup (450m) on Wednesday.

A SUNDAY trial in 25.30 has given the John and Glenda Dart kennel confidence with star sprinter Typhoon Sammy ahead of the heats of the Grafton Sprinters Cup (450m) on Wednesday afternoon.

The son of Aston Dee Bee and Zabaleta has not started since finishing fourth to Integrity Mate in the final of The Thunderbolt (350m) on June 19.

FIELDS AND FORM GRAFTON WEDNESDAY

But he comes into the Sprinters Cup heat boasting a career record of 29 wins and stakes of $203,000.

“And, he's drawn perfectly out in the seven,” said John Dart.

“The trial on Sunday night was great and will bring him right on for this heat.”

Typhoon Sammy will have only a few more starts for the Dart kennel before heading back to the Jason Thompson kennel in Victoria.

“He wants him back three weeks before the heats of the Healesville Cup,” said John.

That's because Typhoon Sammy needs to win only one more Victorian country cup final to earn a $50,000 bonus.

Dart believes track specialist Orara Dan, a faller in The Thunderbolt at his last start, will be the one to beat in Wednesday's heat.

Dart also has Commands Respect drawn the rails in another of the Cup heats.

“He's going well and has twice won at Grafton in 25.30 so he will be thereabouts on Wednesday but he's drawn a tough heat,” said John.

That heat includes Integrity Mate which has comes up with the perfect draw in two.

John Dart is keen to add the Grafton Sprinters Cup to the Stayers Cup he won with Star Monarch way back in 1973.

He also has high hopes for Half Moon Bay, a Grafton winner over 660m on Sunday night in 38.80.

“The connections were very happy,” said Dart of the win.
