Spring Patriot Gets His Chance In Brother Fox

SPRING Patriot has gained a start in The Brother Fox at Dubbo on Saturday and Scott Board believes despite his box draw he will be hard to toss.

SPRING Patriot has gained a start in The Brother Fox final (516m) at Dubbo on Saturday night and trainer Scott Board believes despite his box draw he will be hard to toss.

Billy Creek has been scratched from the final which brings Spring Patriot (Fernando Bale-Spring Leaf) into the final.

“I thought he was so unlucky not to have made the final from the heats,” said Scott.

“He got into all sorts of early trouble but got home to run third beaten just two lengths.

“It was probably a bit of inexperience on his behalf as well but it was an enormous run.”

Spring Patriot ran a flying 29.58 running third behind Fantastic Raven in the heat.

“His problem will be the seven box,” said Scott. “It's a horror draw at Dubbo.”

Board believes ideally drawn, fastest heat winner and raging hot favourite Good Odds Cash is the one to beat.

“It looks like it is her race to lose,” he said.

“I can't see anything running her down if she leads and runs 29.30 again.”

But he still rates Spring Patriot a great chance.

“He is a hot young dog and the youngest in the final,” he said. “He is the only finalist born in 2020.

“He's very strong. He ran home at Wentworth Park in 11.60 and that was after he had won only two races at the start of his career.

“And, he is going to be improved by last week's heat run.

“He hurt a tendon at Wentworth Park back in February and needed 10 weeks off.

“I have every confidence he can run 29.30 around Dubbo but he won't do that coming from off the pace.

“While The Brother Fox will be tough to win, it's better to be in the race than not.”

Board is toying with the idea of taking Spring Patriot to Albion Park for the up-coming Flying Amy Classic.

“I will have to look at the dates and see how we can fit it in,” he said. “He's the right age for that race. I know there will be some hot dogs in the series.

“But, he's won a couple at Wenty running 29.70.”
