Lightning Vision Strikes In Zoom Top Decider

LIGHTNING Vision justified his short quote in Tuesday’s Zoom Top Maiden Final (440m) with a commanding victory in the $10,000 to-the-winner final.

EXCITING juvenile Lightning Vision justified his short quote in Tuesday's Ladbrokes sponsored Zoom Top Maiden Final (440m) with a commanding victory in the $10,000 to-the-winner final.

Lining up from box one as the raging hot $1.35 favourite, the son of Kinloch Brae was simply awesome in the final, scoring by 5 ¼ lengths in 24.68, slightly faster than the 24.71 he recorded in last week's sensational heat success.

"At the moment he's ticking every box – he burns at both ends which is what you want," said Staines following Tuesday's win.

"He missed it away in the final, which he was doing earlier on but he has terrific speed and the red box was a big plus as well … I try not to get ahead of myself with them but I'm over the moon with how he's going."

Tuesday's winning margin was 5 ¼ lengths, the runner-up Conrad Straight for Jodie Lord, gaining a start following the scratching on Monday of second fastest qualifier Paua Of Oscar for David Jones.

Third in the race was Ebby Infrared for Michael Eberand, another three-quarters of a length away.

Not one to look too far ahead, Staines says he'll work the exciting son of Kinloch Brae and Seeya Sticka through the grades over the coming weeks with no real urgency.

"There's some nice races coming up and I'll treat him like I do the rest, if he's going well enough to have a go in a better race he will, he won't be getting wrapped up in cotton wool that's for sure," added Staines.

"I'm really happy to win the race for Jack (Savaglia) as well. We've had a couple of dogs together now – he's your perfect owner. There's no pressure at all from Jack, he just lets me do my thing. I can't thank him enough."

In part, Tuesday's Zoom Top victory was slight redemption for Staines, after the talented Jasper Beardly qualified fastest for last year's Zoom Top Final, only to miss the kick in the final, putting paid to his chances.

"I've run a few placings in Zoom Tops and Goulburn Cups so it was good to win a good race there," added Staines, who has enjoyed immense success at the circuit over the years.

Pawnote: Lightning Vision's dam, Seeya Sticka (Knocka Norris x Ain't She Late), is a sister to Sandown Park 515m track record holder Unlawful Entry, as well as hugely talented WA sprinter Single Sticka.
