Star Brothers All Set For Healesville Cup Tilt

CEE Jay’s Boy and Hardaway Titan are confirmed starters for Sunday’s Healesville Cup heats following their resounding victories at the venue on Sunday.

CRACK litter brothers Cee Jay's Boy and Hardaway Titan are confirmed starters for this Sunday's Group 3 Healesville Cup heats following their resounding first up victories at the venue on Sunday.

Prepared by Condell Park trainer Ron Marsden, the brothers by Barcia Bale and My Lady Day were simply outstanding at their respective Healesville debuts on Sunday, Cee Jay's Boy scoring by seven lengths over the 350m in a best of meeting 19.20, while Hardaway Titan recorded a dashing three-length 16.62 win over the 300m.

"They did everything I could have asked for but they'll obviously need to step it up again this week against the better dogs," said a weary eyed Marsden on Monday morning.

"I noticed the Healesville Cup was on about 3-4 weeks ago and it looked to fit in nice. Both dogs basically weighed in on their previous racing weight so they handled the trip great. Everything was new to them so I'd expect they'll only improve with the experience as well."

The success Marsden is enjoying with Cee Jay's Boy, Hardaway Titan and fellow litter brother Hardaway Harada is nothing short of profound.

Between the trio they have faced the starter on 97 occasions for a remarkable 64 wins, boasting an incredible 66% winning strike-rate.

"They've made their way through to some nice races along the way but we haven't had much luck with boxes in finals … which you need," Marsden added.

"I split them up over the 350 and 300 on Sunday for a couple of reasons. I didn't want them racing each other but also, yesterday was Hardaway Titan's first race or trial for five weeks … the only work he'd had was at home at the (Bankstown) Slipping Track. He'll improve a lot off that run going into this week and if he makes the final be better again."

While the Healesville Cup is the sole focus for the next fortnight, Marsden also declared that Cee Jay's Boy and Hardaway Harada will in all likelihood head towards the TAB Million Dollar Chase.

"If we make the Healesville Cup Final that will rule out the Bulli qualifier so I'd look at Maitland and Goulburn for them," Marsden said.

"I gave Cee Jay's Boy's a break after his last couple of Wenty starts back in April, he didn't want to go in the boxes and didn't race up to his best. He's come back really good though so I'll just see how that goes.

"It's a race you have to have a go at haven't you?"

This Sunday's Healesville Cup heat card is shaping up to be an absolute cracking day of racing, the headline act Garry Selkrig's Straight Track Championship winner Peter Galo.

Running a track record 18.65 track record to take out the final, the son of Peter Rocket butters up for his third straight Healesville Cup.

In 2017, the Shepparton Cup hero finished down the field to Zinzan Brooke in the final before last year finishing less than a length second to Stratron in a heat.
