Star Victorians Trial Ahead Of MDC Tilt

THE Million Dollar Chase picture will become decidedly clearer in the next few days with a number of key hit-outs leading into Friday week’s semi-finals.

THE TAB Million Dollar Chase picture will become decidedly clearer in the next few days with a number of key hit-outs leading into Friday week's semi-finals.

On Wednesday night at Wentworth Park, $8 series equal favourite Shima Shine will trial before the first race, his last major hit-out before his eagerly awaited semi-final assignment.

Runner-up in the grand final last year behind Good Odds Harada, Shima Shine has been in sublime form for Team Dailly, qualifying for the semi-finals with spectacular performances at Bulli recently.

And while Shima Shine's trial on Wednesday night will gather plenty of interest, so too will Flying Ricciardo when he steps out at rock bottom odds in race eight on the program.

A shooting star of Australian greyhound racing, Flying Ricciardo faces off against just four opponents, including Goulburn regional final winner Blistering for trainer Mark Gatt.

On Saturday night at Wentworth Park the final 13 semi-finalists will be decided when eight city qualifiers of the world's richest greyhound race are run and won.

12 semi spots were to be up for grabs but with the news that NZ qualifier Leonard Bale won't be making the trip across the Tasman, an additional slot in the final 64 is now on the offing.

Before the city qualifiers get underway this weekend, reigning Australian Greyhound of The Year Simon Told Helen will trial in readiness for his Million Dollar Chase semi-final assignment.

And according to trainer David Burnett, the four-time group 1 winner is on song for his tilt at the world's richest greyhound event.

"He trialled very well over the 400 metres at Geelong this week, Burnett said.

"And he'll take a lot out of Saturday's 520m trial as well. The plan is to be ready for next week and then hopefully the week after. But I couldn't be happier with him and Who Told Stevie."

The hugely talented Who Told Stevie will tackle qualifier four on Saturday night from box five with Burnett equally happy with the son of Barcia Bale's progress.

"He had a hit out at Geelong as well and went very well," Burnett told.

"Box five doesn't look that bad where they are drawn.

"Hopefully he can begin, get himself into the race and qualify for next week. I'm very happy with him. He'll be better for the run as well. It's just about qualifying for now."
