Champion Bitch Striker Light In Pup

RACING royalty is just on a month away with champion race bitch Striker Light, a three-time G1 winner, in pup and due to whelp in about a month's time.

RACING royalty is just on a month away with champion race bitch Striker Light in pup to gun sire Black Magic Opal.

"She's due to whelp in late August," said proud part-owner George Farrugia earlier this week.

Winner at 30 of her 72 race starts during a glittering racing career that netted prizemoney earnings in excess of $700,000, Striker Light is best remembered for her sensational victory in the 2017 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park, her other two group 1 triumphs in the National Futurity (2017) and Temlee Invitational (2018).

The daughter of Kc And All and Pretty Fancy – trained by part-owners Brett and Kelly Bravo fantastically throughout her stellar racing career, last faced the starter in August 2018, with the much anticipated wait for her first crop of pups almost over.

"Black Magic Opal went 4.91 early at Sandown and Striker Light went 4.92 so it's a pretty good match you'd say," said Farrugia.

Interestingly, Striker Light's first litter of pups, due later next month, come just three months after arch-rival Up Hill Jill whelped a litter of ten pups to generational sire Fernando Bale.

Who could forget the epic duels the two grand bitches had on the track, including their battle in the 2018 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Final at Wentworth Park, a race Up Hill Jill won by a neck in a gripping finish.

Who knows, in two or so year's time the champion bitches' offspring may well begin creating a rivalry of their own.
