Sunset Spitfire Sends Silver Chief Message

RACING fans on the east coast caught their first glimpse of unbeaten WA star Sunset Spitfire at The Meadows on Saturday night.

RACING fans on the east coast caught their first glimpse of unbeaten WA star Sunset Spitfire at The Meadows on Saturday night.

And they weren't disappointed.

The son of Mepunga Blazer, winner at each of his 12 career outings in Western Australia, was trialling at The Meadows ahead of next week's heats of the Group 1 Silver Chief Classic.

And the Dave Hobby-trained talent absolutely rattled the clock posting sectionals of 5.00 and 17.46 before recording 29.52 overall for the 525 metre journey.

It was a performance that saw the hugely talented youngster firm all the way into $3 in all-in betting for the $100,000-to-the-winner aged classic.

Also trialling swiftly in readiness for next week's heats was litter-brother Sunset Toxic which carved out 5.17 and 17.73 before recording 29.88 overall.

A litter brother to Sunset Spitfire, Sunset Toxic goes into the series as the winner at nine of his 17 starts and is currently $67 in all-in betting for the all male feature.

The other notable trial on the program was NSW superstar Flying Ricciardo, acquainting himself with The Meadows circuit for the first time with a slick 29.94 run.

Posting sections of 5.10 and 17.73, the last start Group 1 Dapto Megastar winner is sure to derive plenty of improvement from Saturday night's hit-out.

Trainer Kristy Sultana and father Sam had planned on travelling back and forth for their Silver Chief quest with Flying Ricciardo but have elected to remain in Victoria for the duration of the series given the uncertainty around the borders following the most recent NSW COVID-19 outbreak.
