A FLYING 29.56 after-the-last trial at Richmond on Sunday night on a wet track has primed top staying bitch Super Estrella for a virtual Group 1 engagement at The Gardens on Thursday night.

The daughter of Fernando Bale and Esparza will make her Ladbrokes Gardens debut for trainer Dave Smith and comes up against a field worthy of a Group 1 final.

FIELDS AND FORM THE GARDENS FRIDAY

They are Cool Bourbski, Sound Of Silence, Miss Ezmae, Gypsy Wyong and Ziggy Stardust.

The Stayers Series (715m) prepares the best stayers in the land for “The 715” which gets underway at Ladbrokes Gardens on Saturday week and carries a first prize of $500,000.

The inaugural series is the world’s richest staying event.

Super Estrella is coming off a seventh in a heat of the Group 1 Sandown Cup on May 12 behind Collinda Lady.

“She was sharing the lead in the back straight and got dragged down,” said Dave.

“She’s got the spikes in her back leg to prove it.”

Smith is concerned that box seven on Thursday night at her Ladbrokes Gardens debut does not suit.

“Cool Bourbski off the rails is quick early,” he said. “Sound Of Silence made his debut at The Gardens and was beaten a length by Cool Bourbski.

“Miss Ezmae is a fabulous bitch and that doesn’t even factor in Gypsy Wyong who is a multiple Group 1 winner.”

But Super Estrella is as good as anything in the race.

“She’s been in nine Group finals and been placed in eight,” said Smith.

“She’s a wonderful bitch, the best I’ve had and she deserves to win a Group race. But everyone says that.”

Smith believes Super Estrella has lost a touch of early pace but has added to her strength since stepping up in distance.

“She is just the most wonderful greyhound,” he said. “The perfect temperament. The best I’ve had.”

Smith pondered the Stayers Series field and declared: “Gee, that’s a hard way to earn $7000.”
