The Feral's Grand Career Draws To A Close

SUPERSTAR sprinter Feral Franky has been retired to stud, the curtain closing on a remarkable career that netted 24 wins, five at group race level.

ALL good things must come to an end.

And that's very much the case today with the news that superstar sprinter Feral Franky has been retired to stud.

The son of Collision and Solar Pak, which has captured the imagination of the racing public right around Australia, retires with 24 wins and 16 placings from his 44 career starts, his prize money earnings tallying $486,000.

Prepared to perfection by Forbes trainer Jack Smith, connections made the decision to call time on Feral Franky's career on Monday afternoon, following another heroic performance when rattling home into second in Friday night's Paws Of Thunder Final at Wentworth Park.

While still showing the enormous zest for racing he has displayed from the very start of his grand career, it's understood that the constant requests for the regally bred galloper's services at stud had reached a point that they couldn't be ignored any longer.

And when you mull it all over, it's of little surprise that those stud requests are coming thick and fast.

Bred in the purple, being a son of Collision out of influential brood Solar Pak, Feral Franky begins his stud journey this week, standing at an introductory fee of $1,650.

Today's retirement news is very much a case of one door closing and another one opening, but one thing is for certain, he retires with nothing left to prove.

With all the hype and excitement ‘The Feral' generated off the track, bringing a huge amount of media exposure to the sport's doorstep, it's sometimes easy to forget just what a remarkable career the brindle flyer forged on the track.

Capable of breaking track records for fun, his performances on the big stage seldom let his loyal and significant band of followers down.

In fact, at his 12 appearances in group race finals, he missed a place just twice.

Just remarkable.

Blessed with a heart as big as himself and noted for his uncanny knack of showing ‘jockey-like' sense in a field, ‘The Feral' retires with a long list of career achievements.

And if he enjoys half the success at stud as he did on the track, breeders that get behind him are no doubt in for some exciting times ahead.
