Swab Irregularity From Group 1 Sensation

ONE of Australia’s most popular greyhounds is at risk of losing the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder at Wentworth Park due to a swab irregularity.

ONE of Australia's best greyhounds Wow is at risk of losing the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder due to a swab irregularity.

And in a bitter blow to Friday night's Richmond Derby, the son of Fernando Bale has been sensationally scratched from the group 2 showpiece.

Under the rules of racing, after an irregularity is returned, a clear swab is required before a greyhound can resume racing.

Had Wow's swab when finishing second to Avalanche in the Richmond Derby heats last Friday returned negative before Friday night's final, he would have been able to assume his place in the event.

But time constraints made that impossible.

Wow's scratching from Friday night's Group 2 Richmond Derby Final where he was an odds-on favourite opens the door for outsider Tachycardic to gain a start from box two in the $40,000-to-the-winner event.

Wow's epic victory in January's Paws Of Thunder handed trainer Karina Britton her first group 1 success, defeating Winlock On Top and Zulu Warlord in a dashing 29.49.

The prolific winning chaser then went on to win the Group 1 Temlee in spectacular fashion at The Meadows.
