Swain Goes Back To The Future In Meteor

HE hasn’t raced since April but Sid Swain says Buck’s Future is in the mix for the Masters Meteor which starts at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

HE hasn't raced since April and is coming out of retirement but Sid Swain says Buck's Future is right in contention for the Masters Meteor (520m) which gets underway at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

"But I would have loved another two weeks with him," said Swain.

Winner of last year's Group 1 Paws Of Thunder, Buck's Future, a 10-time Wentworth Park winner, is by far the class runner going into the $100,000 to-the-winner Masters Meteor series.

FIELDS & FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT

But with just a seven week preparation for his racetrack return, Swain concedes his multiple group 1 finalist will be all the better for Saturday night's first up hit-out.

"It will be his first 500 for six months on Saturday night so he'll get tired late," Swain conceded.

"But I couldn't be happier with how he's coming along. At his last start in April he was home for all money at Richmond before doing the ligaments in a hock.

"We basically retired him after that and got some straws collected. But he was bucking around at home a few months back so I got some stem cell treatment done on his hock to see how it responded.

"Things were going great but then he tore a pin muscle and did a wrist.

"It's been a battle to get him to Saturday night. That's what happens when you get old."

Buck's Future will exit box two in heat four of the Masters Meteor on Saturday night.

The son of Buck Fever is a firm second favourite behind Sunburnt Highway (box seven), while 2018 Group 3 Christmas Gift winner Modus Operandi is a solid third elect from box three.

"If he begins he'll bore up and lead I'm sure – he wants the fence," Swain said.

"I cleared him to race again at Richmond last week and he went 18.86 but the run was better than the time looks.

"He's been going around Bathurst and Lithgow and trialling well … he's not going backwards.

"If we can qualify on Saturday night for the final he'll be a lot better for the run. He's feeling good."

Swain is also represented on Saturday night by Midnight Escape which goes around in heat three of the Young Star Classic (520m) from box two.

"I'm not happy his brother Night Tracker didn't get a run in the series – he'd pick up and carry Midnight Escape," Swain said.

"I can't work the grading out. Night Tracker has won two at Wentworth Park and there's a dog in the series in front of him that has won a couple of 300s in the country. It makes no sense to me?"
