NEXT week’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic and Peter Mosman Opal have been postponed following the announcement from the NSW Government that the Greater Sydney region will be in lockdown for two weeks.

On Saturday morning, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) announced that it was moving the two Group 1 features from Wentworth Park to Gosford in response to the stay at home orders in place in the City of Sydney region.

But with the situation constantly evolving and restrictions intensifying, GRNSW was left with little option than to postpone the flagship races.

“GRNSW wishes to inform all participants of the latest industry COVID-19 updates following the recent announcement from the NSW Government that the Greater Sydney region will be in lockdown for two weeks,” the statement read.

“Earlier today GRNSW announced that the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic and the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal would be transferred from Wentworth Park, to now be run Gosford over the next two Saturday nights, July 3 and July 10.

“GRNSW can now confirm that as a result of the lockdown, these two events will not be taking place as scheduled. Further advice on the two Group 1 races will be passed on to all participants when it is available.”

The race meeting scheduled for Richmond on Sunday has been abandoned.

Meetings scheduled for Monday at Grafton, Bathurst and Nowra, will all proceed as scheduled.

“We will work on a revised racing schedule for the remainder of the coming two week period of the lockdown, and relay this information to its participants in the very near future,” the statement added.
