Tabcorp Sounds Out McInerney For Phoenix

TABCORP has made a bid for Million Dollar Chase winner Mcinerney as its representative in the upcoming $1.65 million The Phoenix.

TABCORP has sounded out Million Dollar Chase winner McInerney as a possible representative in the upcoming $1.65 million The Phoenix.

The second running of The Phoenix will be staged at The Meadows on December 17 with $1 million to go to the winner.

Breeder and owner, Noel Mugavin, confirmed he had been approached by Tabcorp on the morning after McInerney's narrow but stylish victory in the Million Dollar Chase.

The son of Fernando Bale and broodbitch goldmine Born Ali held off Zipping Kyrgios and early leader He's On Fire to land the million dollar pay day for Mugavin and trainer Brendan Pursell and his son Blake.

IN other MDC news, owner Marty Hallinan has agreed to extend the race career of runner-up Zipping Kyrgios.

Joint trainer Minnie Finn had said prior to the MDC final it was expected Zipping Kyrgios would retire to stud immediately after the race.

“But, on Sunday John (Finn) and I spoke to Marty and it was agreed while he was so sound and racing so well, we should push on,” said Minnie.

“We will now head to The Gardens to chase consecutive Black Tops, and then look to go to Melbourne for the 600 metre Hume Cup.”

Minnie is also glowing in her praise of Young Stars winner Zipping Orlando.

“At this stage of Orlando's career, he is a better dog than Kyrgios,” she said.

“He too will go to the Black Top.

“But, in the future we believe he could be a great stayer.”

Zipping Orlando (Zipping Garth-Zipping Dharma) is unbeaten in his first eight starts and has already won at Wentworth Park in 29.53.

He has an incredibly in-bred pedigree.
