Temora Masterclass: Sims Lands Five Winner Haul

PETER Sims guided home five winners in a training masterclass at Temora on Sunday night continuing a fantastic start to 2021 for the Illabo based mentor.

But while Sims has enjoyed a fantastic start to 2021 on the track the same can't be said for off it with a car accident last month returning home from Wentworth Park setting his sizeable operation back markedly.

"Billy who works for me got in an accident on the way home from Wentworth Park and the van was a total write off," Sims said.

"Luckily Billy's okay and the dogs came out of it with no major issues but losing the $80,000 van is a big setback for us. So we're trying to win as many races as we can to get back on our feet."

Sims' five winner haul at Temora on Sunday was hot on the heels of a winning quartet at the meeting prior.

"And it should have been five that day too but there was a no race with one of the races we won," Sims said.

"We've just been focusing on Wagga and Temora since the accident and things are going well. Hopefully that continues – we've got a nice team."

The first of Sims' winners on Sunday was impressive first starter Short Ticket, the daughter of Fernando Bale stopping the clock in 17.92 (330m).

That was followed by the win of Sycamore Iris in 19.17 (330m) before Moment Of Bliss stopped the clock in a sizzling 25.72 for the 457 metres.

The big day was rounded out by wins with Princess Zeal in 18.80 (330m) and Chance Your Arm in 18.96 (330m).

And while Sims was over the moon with the performance of each of his winning brigade he was at pains to point out the potential at the feet of Moment Of Bliss which made it three on the trot.

"She can run anything but she's got some quirks," Sims said.

"To give you an idea good dogs I've had like Nations and Modus Operandi, the best they could run at Wagga post to post was 25.10-25.15. This bitch first go went 24.93.

"It's all confidence with her … she won't go into the pen, there's just something in her head. She'll either stop at the 400m boxes or run back to you.

“If she knows Billy is in the catching pen she's okay though. So wherever she goes Billy won't be far behind.”
