The Greyhound Recorder’s Adam Dobbin and GRNSW’s Tim Newbold dissect Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg Final night at Wentworth Park.

Race 1 – Group 3 Magic Maiden Final (520m)

AD: Tim, if you can’t get excited about tonight’s card you’re impossible to please. Smorgasbord of group racing action which kicks off in the opener with the Magic Maiden. Betting has it a match in two between ZIPPING NOVAK (2) and SIMPLY LIMELIGHT (6) and hard to argue given their exploits during the first two rounds. I’m with Simply Limelight, I’m a bit concerned about the inside draw for Novak where he could find some traffic early. At some odds throwing in IBROX WILDFIRE (3) for the exotics.

TIPS: 6,2,3,1

TN: Absolutely Adam, if you aren’t pumped about this meeting then you probably need to find a new hobby! Tried hard to look outside the square but keep coming back to the favourites. We’re butting heads to start which is good to see, I’m with ZIPPING NOVAK (2). I’m not concerned about the inside draw and I’m reading the race that he’ll get a nice slide through at the first bend and SIMPLY LIMELIGHT (6) could struggle to get across. If he does and leads, then it’s game, set and match for Novak as he couldn’t run him down. NANGAR NANCY (5) is the best roughie as she could easily lead.

TIPS: 2,6,5,1

Race 2 – GRNSW Masters Final (520m)

AD: Doubt we’ll see a better placed dog in a series this year than LOTS OF CHATTER (5). Tim, in Victoria he’s still holding his own in open age group races and here he is against the greybeards in a masters series at $3.6! Won his heat and expect more of the same here. KOORINGA LUCY (2) is in the same boat from a class perspective and is my clear second pick while ZIPPING BRADY (3) is worth including at value. Couldn’t find a spot for Wenty’s most winningest greyhound in SUNBURNT HIGHWAY (6). Can you?

TIPS: 5,2,3,1

TN: Wash your mouth out Adam, couldn’t find a spot for the King of Wenty. Please! I’ve got him in there but have a couple ahead of him. Totally agree with your thoughts on LOTS OF CHATTER (5). Racing in superb fashion and couldn’t have been more impressive winning his heat. The danger is the Northern Rivers dynamo KOORINGA LUCY (2). Just like Lots Of Chatter she’s a 36-time winner and has the speed to land right on the lure. SUNBURNT HIGHWAY (6) goes in and could easily notch up win number 39 at HQ.

TIPS: 5,2,6,4

Race 3: Listed Ultra Sense (520m)

AD: Really looking forward to this contest Tim where there’s a host of winning chances after some great heats last Friday. LOCHINVAR LONA (8) qualified quickest with a 29.70 romp and given he’s still on the up I’m in his corner. CASTLE WARRIOR (1) downed a hot field to win the Bulli Cup four runs back and from the red is definitely the one they have to beat while I thought ZIPPING LOPEZ (5) deserves some attention also with the benefit of his heat win under his belt. Raft of hopes here Tim, which way did you swing?

TIPS: 8,5,1,3

TN: Despite being a very competitive race, I’m really keen on CASTLE WARRIOR (1). Was really taken with his heat victory and confident he can go faster given a quick track but doubt he’ll get that tonight. Got a super draw boxed underneath a screaming wide-runner in Opal Model so will get an airport to drive up on the rails. LOCHINVAR LONA (8) is a real talent. Trounced his rivals in a sensational Wenty debut last start but has to contend with an abundance of speed drawn underneath him. If there’s a knockout it’s WHERE’S ROCKY (6). Classy, strong sprinting-type who could steam over the top.

TIPS: 1,8,6,5

Race 4 – Paul Wheeler Celebration (520m)

AD: Important race this Tim the Paul Wheeler celebration which does exactly that, celebrates the life of the industry icon. Another race with a host of chances and I’ve ended up with ALL NOSE (7) at big each-way odds. Has the tough draw but she’s underrated and seems to find a way to get herself into the race. ZIPPING SAPPORO (5) the one to beat, G1 winner at the track that’s back in form with two recent wins. Expect ZIPPING PEARSON (4) to run a race at some value too while DULCERIA (3) has winning form.

TIPS: 7,5,3,4

TN: Lovely to see Paul honoured on one of the sport’s biggest nights. I’m with Qlder DULCERIA (3). Both starts in Sydney have been in G1 heats and one of those included a gallant placing behind Easter Egg finalist Idolize in the National Futurity series. She’s got the speed to find the front and run a dashing race. Great value chance. REDEEM OUR CASH (1) loves the cherry and will appreciate the class drop in recent runs. Relishes racing at the Glebe circuit. SUZIE’S FACE (8) is nicely drawn wide-out and could get the ‘fly’ if there is any jostling underneath. We’re at odds in this one!

TIPS: 3,1,8,5

Race 5 – Group 3 New Sensation Final (520m)

AD: New Sensation finale and what a field it is. Last year the race was won by Jungle Deuce with Louis Rumble – which contests the Easter Egg later in the night – finishing second. Big shoes to fill. And I think FRENCH MARTINI (8) can. Three from three to begin her career and she looks something right out of the box. GOOD ODDS EMMA (6) backs up after a top Bulli win Tuesday, tricky draw but she’s got loads of ability. Victorian DEVINE EMPRESS (4) was ultra-impressive winning her heat and is sure to take plenty out of her heat win which was her first trip to Sydney. Great race, Tim.

TIPS: 8,6,4,3

TN: Totally concur with your opinion of FRENCH MARTINI, she’s got the X-factor and could turn out to be something special but I’m a bit concerned with the wide alley in this race and think she might struggle to get across. I love DOONAN’S (1) draw, he’s a mad railer who should punch up and stalk the speed then unleash mid-race and he’s super strong late. DEVINE EMPRESS (4) is a high speed youngster who can only be improved by her debut Wenty run. Not overly worried about the draw with a ‘widey’ on her outer. YUKO GIRL (3) appreciated the drop in class last start and could easily go back-to-back.

TIPS: 1,4,3,8

Race 6 – Group 3 The Ambrosoli (520m)

AD: The Ambrosoli, recognising PA’s legendary broadcasting exploits. The name of the bloke that followed him escapes me? Anyway back to the serious stuff, I’m value hunting with ZIPPY TESLA (5). Got held up at a crucial stage in his Egg semi-final and I reckon he’s ready to produce a bottler run with his booming finish. ZIPPING KYRGIOS (6) caught the eye with his third placed finish last week and can never be left out of calculations. G1 winner EQUALIZER (7) has the awful draw to contend with while LALA KIWI (3) is drawn to get every chance of returning to the winners list.

TIPS: 5,6,3,1

TN: Feel for that poor bugger who initially followed the great man, wasn’t he on a hiding to nothing! Seriously, great to see such a quality field assembled for PA’s annual event. Thought there was a real lack of genuine speed in this race and if BOSTON GARDEN (1) begins, I can see him sailing to the top and he’ll take some catching. Deadset box-one bandit and both recent runs have been super. As we know ZIPPING KYRGIOS (6) is a machine, the recent rise in trip has probably seen him lose a touch of early speed but he’s super strong and only needs an ounce of luck mid-race to be in the finish. COAST MODEL (8) at around 20 bucks is a massive roughie. She could easily ping and pinch it.

TIPS: 1,6,8,2

Race 7 – Group 1 Association Cup (720m)

AD: Can MEPUNGA RUBY (4) upstage ZIPPING KANSAS (5) again? The Victorian starlet beat him on his merits last week but I’m tipping the budding star to turn the tables. Set up for a fascinating spectacle. And that’s before we’ve mentioned SUPER ESTRELLA (2) – on sections from last week’s heats she’ll be two lengths in front at the winning post the first turn, exactly where you want to be. Would love to see STANLEY ROAD (1) return to some form and defend his title. Trust me, stranger things have happened!

TIPS: 5,2,4,1

TN: I won’t have it down as strange if STANLEY ROAD (8) goes back-to-back Adam, he’s a genuine winning hope at a big price. Perfectly drawn and thought his run was full of merit last week. That being said, I’m with boom dog ZIPPING KANSAS (5). Completely bombed the jump and had to work overtime mid-race last start and with a cleaner getaway should punch for the front and as we know can run scintillating times. MEPUNGA RUBY (4) is a little beauty. Probably doesn’t get the accolades she should, after all she’s won 21 of 35 starts. Brilliant heat victory last week and could easily do it all again.

TIPS: 5,4,1,2

Race 8 – Group 1 Golden Easter Egg (520m)

AD: The big one. And despite the tricky draw I just can’t go past SHE’S A PEARL (5). Prepared by one of the best in the business and I just can’t see her form regressing this week. She’s class with a capital C. LOUIS RUMBLE (1) deserves a big race and he gets the draw to give himself every chance while the Wenty form of Victorian IDOLIZE (4) is unblemished and if she steps cleanly we are going to witness an almighty charge into that first turn. And all this before mentioning GOOD ODDS CASH (7). Going to be a cracker Tim, where do you sit with it all?

TIPS: 5,1,4,7

TN: As is the case in all big races, the start is absolutely critical but none more so than this Egg Final. Speed to burn from the inside to outside so expecting fireworks early. Slight leaning to IDOLIZE (4) due to the fact she’s drawn underneath the favourite and could hold her from crossing over in the run to the first bend. She’s fallen in love with the Harbour city and Sydneysiders have fallen equally in love with her. LOUIS RUMBLE (1) has been great in both his heat and semi-final wins but just needs to improve a shade on the clock. SHE’S A PEARL (5) is the one to beat, deserved favourite and the only knock is the current odds-on quote. She’s an outstanding animal. The best roughie is FANTASTIC RAVEN (3) at double figures. I went searching for some value in the decider Adam but I’m well aware you can’t eat value!

TIPS: 4,1,5,3

Race 9

AD: With any luck whatsoever MEPUNGA WARRIOR (6) should be too classy. Had he drawn one or two we’d be taking close to odds on. Expect the speed to come from HYPERVENTILATE (5) and while he’s an each-way chance should give the green a charmed run. Liked the recent efforts of FOUR FIVE (3) as well, not without claims. But it’s Mepunga Warrior (6) all day for me.

TIPS: 6,5,3,8

TN: Almost identical numbers Adam. MEPUNGA WARRIOR (6) is a quality chaser who only needs to bring his Victorian form and should get the job one. As you’ve mentioned HYPERVENTILATE (5) should give him the cart across and can run a cheeky race at odds. He strips fitter for recent runs over ‘500’ here. FOUR FIVE (3) can never be underestimated and goes into all of the multiples along with the grand campaigner CRAZY OLD GOAT (1) from the perfect draw.

TIPS: 6,5,3,1

Race 10

AD: PANORAMA (7) to possibly cap off a big night for the Lord kennel in the last. Ran into some bother at first run for new camp at Goulburn following some slashing Brisbane form. Big watch at her city debut. MEPUNGA MUSTANG (2) is a hugely talented Victorian and he strikes a winnable race at his Sydney debut. That pair stand clear for me in the closer – SPRING METEOR (8) is a very promising type but concerned about the box eight draw for him.

TIPS: 7,2,8,5

TN: Tipping the Victorian’s to finish the night off in a big way with MEPUNGA MUSTANG (2) getting the cash. Arrives with solid form on his resume down South and has run flying figures on different tracks. PANORAMA (7) is a big threat on her Qld runs. Had excuses first-up at Goulburn and now suited rising in trip. SPRING METEOR (8) loves racing at Wenty and could easily rush to the front with a slick getaway.

TIPS: 2,7,8,1
