Thomas ‘Bound' For More Hobart Success

THE Eileen Thomas-trained Bound For Blue is chasing four wins on the trot when she lines up from box two in race eight at Hobart on Thursday night.

A significant betting drift did nothing to stop Bound For Blue powering away for a comfortable 26.08 Hobart victory last Thursday and the daughter of Bekim Bale returns tonight eyeing four wins on the trot.

Installed a raging hot $1.40 favourite for race four last Thursday, the Eileen Thomas-trained two-year old drifted all the way out to $2.80 at jump time, before careering away for a cruisy 6 ¼ length victory in a slick 26.08.

TONIGHT'S HOBART FIELDS AND FORM

"I think they must have been concerned about the box eight draw because she does struggle if she gets posted off the track in her races," said Ian Thomas, deputising for wife Eileen.

"She's a bitch that really thrives on confidence. We gave her a few starts early on and she didn't show much but she hurt a stopper and since she's come back from that she's really thrived.

"She's run 16.09 for the 278 metres at Launceston; that's flying."

Tonight, Bound For Blue takes her place in race eight on the program from box two over the 461 metres, with Thomas quietly confident that the progressive juvenile can continue on her winning way.

Early markets see her at $2.60, just behind race favourite Shilo at $2.15.

"She's not what you'd call a mad railer but she does want the fence so the inside draw suits," Thomas added.

"Shilo, which is drawn on her outside holds his line early so he shouldn't worry her – the race looks between the two of them on paper."

While Bound For Blue is the best of Thomas' chances tonight, the kennel is also represented by Vargo Plains in race three over the 340m from box five, while in race 10, Barbados Boy is monster odds chasing his first Tasmanian victory from box four.

A brother to Melbourne Cup finalist Western Envoy and National Sprint hero Premium Share, Thomas concedes that Barbados Boy isn't demonstrating the same depths of ability of his fellow siblings.

"It doesn't count for much … they reckon Tony Lockett's brother couldn't kick a football," chuckled Thomas.

"At big odds I'd say Barbados Boy is an each-way chance in that race.

"We gave him a few starts when he first came over and then gave him a break, he's had no luck with boxes.

"His trials at Launceston lately have been good and I don't think he's badly boxed in the middle of the track at Hobart.

"Vargo Plains is a steady dog; he gives his all every start. It doesn't look an overly hard race that he's in so if he happens to come out good and get near the front he'll be a chance as well."
