THE $40,000 to-the-winner Group 2 McKenna Memorial at Sandown Park highlights racing this Thursday night, with a terrific field assembled for the middle distance feature.

As well as a big card of racing at Sandown, there’s terrific metro meetings out of Albion Park, Angle Park, Dapto and Hobart as well … and we’ve poured through the form and come up with some of the better bets of the night, including quaddie selections for the five major meetings.

NOTE: Times are listed in Australian Eastern  Standard time.

SANDOWN – Race 4 (7.10pm) Number 5, PREMIER RUMBLE

Really keen on Premier Rumble tonight and he’s our bet of the evening. Comes out of last Friday’s Bendigo Cup Final after winning his heat in sizzling time, can run flying sections and I don’t think the five is a bad draw tonight either. Has run 29.50 here and can go better, very hard to beat for this.

ALBION PARK – Race 3 (7.25pm) Number 1, INFRARED LAD

We won’t be fast tracking retirement plans if he gets the chocolates but he really does look the winner despite the short quote. Scored over the 710m last week and he’s proven in the past he’s very durable so the drop back to 600m shouldn’t pose an issue. Loves the red and looks to get all the favours in the run, looks a good one for multis and the like.

DAPTO – Race 4 (8.25pm) Number 8, SALUTE TO EXCEL

We made him our best last week and he saluted in terrific fashion. Quoted at around the even money mark tonight see no reason why he won’t repeat the dose. Two starts here at Dapto for a first and narrow second, can run a flying first split and can just see him rushing to the front again tonight … has the most upside of this field. City chaser in the making.

ALBION PARK – Race 7 (8.55pm) Number 5, BLUE DIVA

Very talented bitch, winner 7 of 22 overall, and she looks nicely placed tonight to return to the winners list. Does like a bit of room early and expect she gets that tonight from five, can do it at both ends as she is a 600m winner and the reduced field suits her racing pattern as well. Looks a fantastic chance at around the $2.70 mark early doors.

HOBART – Race 8 (10.01pm) Number 3, BUCKLE UP AXON

It’s been a decent run of outs for Buckle Up Axon which makes it difficult to be overconfident but at his best expect he makes his presence felt in this tonight. Boasts a flying 25.88 PB here at Hobart and has been in the money at 6 of his 8 runs at the T/D. Has a class and experience edge on the favourite tonight and at the better price happy to go his way.

LAY: DAPTO – Race 7 (9.34pm) Number 1, TOPPER PHOENIX

Early favourite for the race off the red at $2.50 which doesn’t represent much value. Placed at four of her seven Dapto starts but expect there’s going to be plenty of speed carving across here in three and eight which will make the task all the more difficult. Happy to risk.

BEST BET: SANDOWN – Race 4 (7.10pm) Number 5, PREMIER RUMBLE

BEST VALUE: ALBION PARK – Race 6 (8.43pm) Number 5, DEEP IMPACT

BEST QUINELLA: SANDOWN PARK – Race 4 (7.10pm) Numbers 2 & 5, KESSLER BALE & PREMIER RUMBLE.
