Time Called On Career Of Record Breaking Group Star

SPRINT star Paua Of Buddy has been retired to stud with injury curtailing his career which boasted track records and group wins for Steve White.

SPRINT powerhouse Paua Of Buddy has been retired to stud.

Trainer Steve White made the announcement of the son of Aston Dee Bee and Paua To Admit who will stand at a service fee of $1650.

He retires with a career record of 34 starts for 17 wins and 10 placings, earning $147,000.

“He goes out on a fabulous note beating Titan Blazer in that match race at Traralgon late in January,” said Steve.

A recurrence of a long ago hock problem after a trial at Healesville since that win and the prospect of six weeks on the sidelines before starting another campaign, convinced Steve and breeder-owner Dave Jones to retire the dog.

He goes to stud off a record breaking career, running 21.98 at Warragul to set the time standard, while also running a remarkable 22.28 record at Wagga for the 400m.

He won the Group 2 Bendigo Cup and was runner-up in the G1 Hobart 1000 and third in the Southern Stars at Goulburn and The Arrow up Healesville.

“We've trained a dozen really super fast dogs and I am never going to compare them,” said Steve.

“But, Buddy has always been a super fast dog among that dozen.”

Steve has drawn a number of straws already and the dog is “ready to go” for matings.

“We never saw the best of him after a few injuries cause niggling problems all his career,” he said.

“At first he had that hock problem, a stress fracture which put him out for a while.

“Then he had a gut buster chasing Qwara Bale in the Warragul St Leger and that put him on the sidelines for a couple of months.

“He then needed a joint taken off a toe as well as needing his tonsils removed.

“The toe joint stopped him jumping as good as he did when a youngster.”

But White is adamant he is so typical of the Alice Dooley damline.

“He's got a fabulous temperament,” he said.

“And, that's what makes stud dogs.”
