GROUP 1 champions and rising stars head to Sandown Park on Thursday evening ahead of the club's first black-type events for 2025.
Nine-time group finalist Flying Zulu will be looking to add to his $831,000 in stakes ahead of a likely tilt at next week's Listed Australia Day Sprint, while a number of runners will be looking to stake their claim for a berth in the Listed Maidment Memorial (595m).
Meanwhile, potential star Urana Xavier will continue his march through the grades when he meets a strong grade 5 field.
FIELDS AND FORM SANDOWN PARK THURSDAY NIGHT
The first of 12 races will jump at 7.02pm.
Best: Flying Zulu (race 9, box 1)
Has contested four group races in his last nine starts highlighting his class, and while he meets some smart types here, the Brisbane Cup winner has drawn ideally (five wins from six starts in the red vest) and should be too good.
Next Best: Nosey Bluey (race 2, box 1)
Crashed to the fence from the wide draw before winning his heat by six lengths. Will appreciate the inside draw and has the early speed to lead all of the way.
Value: Urana Xavier (race 7, box 5)
Classy pup aiming for a hattrick of wins. Enjoyed the inside draw in both of those wins, but he has shown enough to suggest he'll continue to progress through the grades.
Each way: Fred Rose (race 10, box 7)
Veteran chaser which has been mixing his distances, but finds a suitable race here. The inside three runners are likely to lead the market, but Fred Rose should get a clear enough run early from the suitable wide draw and can run a drum.
Quaddie: 12 / 2458 / 1268 / 127 = $50 for 52%
