DANIEL Gibbons was among the last to board a flight to Bali on Sunday … he had to watch the Mount Gambier Cup final on his phone.

He was just in time, with his classy Titan Blazer scoring a much deserved feature race victory in the Group 3 event.

He scored by a length and a half at the big odds of $6 despite his impressive career record, beating Lochinvar Cahill with a length to Sister Roberta in third.

“He's been a terrific dog but he's been depressing as well,” said Daniel.

Titan Blazer took his career to 69 starts for 25 wins and 23 placings for $244,000 in stakes, but Daniel knows only too well “what could have been”.

Titan Blazer (Mepunga Blazer-Miss Tron) has been second in a G2 Warragul Cup, third in the G1 Silver Chief and a finalist at G1 level in the Australian Cup, Harrison Dawson and Melbourne Cup.

“It's well overdue,” said Daniel from Bali where he is holidaying with his family.

Titan Blazer will now be aimed at the G2 Geelong Cup.

“He was educated around the inside track as a youngster and he knows it so well,” said Daniel.

“We will take him there for the Cup series.”

Gibbons also will not be back home for the final of the G2 Ballarat Cup (450m) for which he has littermates Quinlan Bale and Kelsey Bale engaged.

Salad Dodger, for Anthony Azzopardi, ran the quickest of the heats but the Gibbons pair were next best.

They have drawn boxes three and seven respectively for the final on Good Friday.

“Both of them went really well,” said Daniel.

“Despite their box draws, I don't think either of them is badly off in the final.

“What is drawn around then will help them.”

Daniel and his family arrive home on Monday.
