Tommy Shelby Off To A Flyer At Stud

STEVE and Kira Withers were in Cairns enjoying a brief holiday from training in WA but took time out to watch a lowly maiden at Ipswich on Tuesday afternoon.

That's because it highlighted the very first runner by the Withers' part-owned and trained champion Tommy Shelby.

And, that bitch, Powered Up (Tommy Shelby-Hesperides) did not let the team down leading throughout to win by three lengths at $2.30 second favourite.

Trained by Jamie Hosking, Powered Up downed the $2 favourite, royally bred Fernando Bale-Miss Splendamiro bitch Princess Damiro with Farmor Frisky in third.

The winner was storming to the front going through the catching pen but was dragged down from behind.

She recovered to stay on her feet and race away to win from the luckless Princess Damiro.

“To deal with interference like that and keep chasing as hard as she did was a very good effort,” said Hosking today.

“It is good to get over that first win, get the job done.

“Steve and Kira were on their way to the Great Barrier Reef yesterday but made sure they watched the race.

“We got the congratulatory text straight after the win.”

Powered Up goes into the final next Tuesday.
