Too Sassy Gives Duggan ‘Huge Thrill' In Goldmine

CENTRAL Coast trainer Tony Duggan admits Tuesday night's Gosford Goldmine victory by home bred Too Sassy was a "huge thrill".

ANTHONY Duggan admits Tuesday night's Gosford Goldmine victory by home bred Too Sassy was a “huge thrill”.

The daughter of Dyna Double One-Sass led virtually throughout to win the Goldmine final (515m) as a $12 chance scoring by a length and a quarter over Lightnin' Ethics and Knighted Shadow in 29.64.

“It was a huge thrill,” he said. “There was a good crowd at the track for the final and the reception we got was great.”

Anthony, who admits to being “bloody old, but my age is not for print”, has been developing the damline that produced Too Sassy since the mid 1990s when he bought the Shining Chariot-Semester bitch Aryton Girl.

She was a full sister from a repeat mating to Blonde Bombshell, the granddam of champion and breed shaper Bombastic Shiraz.

“We bred Formula Girl and in turn bred Mckew and each of them have been fine producers,” said Anthony. “It is the famous Zulu Moss family.”

Mckew is the second dam of Too Sassy and also dam of Black Top finalist Cloud Ten.

Too Sassy is a half sister to Keefe, a finalist at Group 1 level in the Super Stayers and Topgun Stayers.

Duggan has been pestered already for pups from Too Sassy.

“As soon as she won at The Gardens in 29.28 back in March I've been approached for pups out of her,” he said of the bitch he will certainly breed with in the future.

Duggan is not sure where Too Sassy will go next.

“I've had a few problems with her missing the start and I believe this came from a couple of runs she had at Wentworth Park,” he said.

“She is a very, very fast little bitch, but even in the final she came out nearly last.

“But she had the pace to lead and she was lucky not to get any trouble at the first turn.”

He said the Wentworth Park problem could force him to even send her to Victoria to be trained.

“It would not worry me to do that with her,” he said. “Terry Reid has trained a couple of dogs for me in the past and if Wentworth Park is out, she could go south.”

The Goldmine victory took Too Sassy's record to 12 starts for five wins and $24,000 in stakes.

Duggan has been training for the past 20 years since retiring.

“I was an owner-trainer before that but we moved to the Central Coast to breed a few litters,” he said.
