WHAT a champagne night of racing it is at Wentworth Park this Saturday  night featuring 10 heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

All the big guns are there – Flying Ricciardo, Wow, Shima Shine, Tommy Shelby, Handsome Prince … the list goes on.

And while a lot of the top series contenders are pretty tight in the market for their respective heats I expect they will mostly dominate the card and make a seamless progression to week two of the $250,000-to-the-winner showpiece.

Race 3 Number 7 – ALL HANDS OFF

I’m not all that rapped in the draw but expect Faithy Bale drawn to her inside gives her a nice cart into the race. If she does get clear air early expect she’ll prove too strong late and put up serious time in doing so. Has been airborne at Albion Park recently so comes into this in career best form.

Race 5 Number 2 – HANDSOME PRINCE

Million Dollar Chase champ that steps out for the first time since November. Has been targeted towards this series and strikes a winnable heat first up. Granted he’ll be a lot better for the run but gets the cushy draw and worth remembering he’s undefeated in three Wentworth Park performances.

Race 11 Number 4 – FERNANDO BLUEY

Trialled in fantastic fashion at WPK last Tuesday week and looks well placed to take out the final heat. Comes into the series off a sensational second to Tommy Shelby in the Australian Cup Final and by all reports has come on from that run in leaps and bounds. Right in the mix for the series and get the feeling WPK is right up his alley. Looks the goods.

Best Value

Race 7 Number 6 ZIPPING SULTAN

$8 on offer in one of the more open heats looks good shopping to me. Has been in sharp form at home in Victoria and worth remembering he launched his career at WPK with two breathtaking wins. Expect he’ll relish the return to Sydney and give backers a great sight at some value.

Race 9 Number 6 ZACK MONELLI

With so much speed engaged in the race it has the prospect of being set right up for a swooper. Enter WA star Zack Monelli. Will get back in the pack over the sprint trip but if the breaks go his way mid race it won’t surprise at all to see him finishing over the top.

Looks a race that could well change complexion on a few occasions with a handful of possible leaders.
