THE Group 1 Golden Easter Egg gets underway this Saturday night after the series was pushed forward a week due to the disastrous weather conditions NSW has been facing.

The postponement of last week’s meeting meant the ten heats were redrawn with some big winners and some big losers heading into the three week series.

But fortunately it was more of the same for pre-post series favourite Flying Ricciardo, drawing box one for his eagerly awaited heat eight assignment.

The son of Barcia Bale capped off his Golden Easter Egg preparations with a sizzling 21.95 Bulli trial on Tuesday night over 400 metres, the time just a whisker outside the 21.93 track record held by Pindari Express.

In what promises to be a champagne card of racing, all the big guns return this weekend with greyhounds the caliber of Wow, Shima Shine, Tommy Shelby and Handsome Prince joining Flying Ricciardo in the star-studded heats.

I’m expecting the cream to rise to the top on Saturday night with the majority of favourites scoring to make a seamless passage through to week two.

WENTWORTH PARK FIELDS AND FORM

Race 2 Number 2 – HANDSOME PRINCE

I made him a best bet last week and see no reason to shy away here after coming up with box two again. He’s the Million Dollar Chase champ that steps out for the first time since November. Has been targeted towards this series and strikes a winnable heat first up. Granted he’ll be a lot better for the run but gets the cushy draw and worth remembering he’s undefeated in three Wentworth Park performances. Trialled well at Goulburn on Monday.

Race 5 Number 8 – INCAPACITATED

Fantastic clash in this Egg heat between Richmond Derby and Oaks winners Incapacitated and Crazy Cool. I’m pretty keen on Incapacitated who trialled in fantastic fashion at Goulburn on Monday. Box eight record is poor and almost all his wins at WPK have been off the inside draws but the way the field is drawn in this I can see him getting into his work down the back and proving too strong late. Sleeper for the series without doubt.

Race 7 Number 6 – FERNANDO BLUEY

Tipping Sydney-siders will get a close up look at just how good this greyhound is over the next three weeks. And that starts in his heat where he’s drawn six but don’t let that deter you. He has a speedy railer drawn to his inside and a wide runner to his outside. Boasts blinding pace and has trialled sharply at Wenty in the lead up. Last start was a gallant second to Tommy Shelby in the Australian Cup. Ticks all the boxes … and then some.

Best Value

Race 3 Number 6 – ZIPPING ZARBO

Underestimate this bitch at your peril. As much as $13 is being offered which represents great each-way value. Runs into a couple of smart ones which you’d expect but she has the pace to lead and her best city form is more than up to winning this, providing she begins. The challenge is crossing Zulu Warlord but worth noting she’s broken five early at Sandown and has run 5.01 at The Meadows.

Race 11 Number 3 FAITHY BALE

Can see her getting out to silly odds by jump time. In fact she’s already on her way. Hasn’t been setting the world on fire recently but the Daillys are renowned for bringing them interstate, in particular Wentworth Park, and bouncing them back into form. Grand FFA bitch at home and has placed her past four runs so not totally out of touch either. Worth remembering back in October she was a half head away from qualifying for the Million Dollar Chase Final, beaten by … Flying Ricciardo.
