Topgun Hero's Career In The Balance

THE career of Group 1 Topgun hero Get It Gizmo is in the balance after suffering a hock injury in Saturday night's Group 2 Ballarat Cup Final.

"We'll know the extent of it on Monday when we get x-rays but it's not good," said his owner/trainer Harry Manolitsis.

Winner at 10 of his 24 starts and over $250,000 in prize money, Get It Gizmo, a son of Kinloch Brae and Dasha, was third favourite for Saturday night's Ballarat Cup won by Western Envoy.

"He hobbled off the track and can't walk on it this morning," Manolitsis added.

“I haven't been that happy with his past few runs so you start to wonder if it was niggling away at him before last night. But you'll never know … he's always checked by our best vets."

Winner of the Group 1 Topgun and third to Good Odds Harada in the TAB Million Dollar Chase when up in NSW with Jason Mackay, Get it Gizmo has recorded some blistering times, the Melbourne Cup finalist missing a place on just four occasions in his 24 start career.

"We'll make some decisions this week depending on what the x-rays show but if that's it for him it's very sad … these dogs don't come along every day," Manolitsis added.

"I lost Moreira when he was just 2 ½ and it might be the same with this fella but we'll see. If that's it then he'll get his chance at stud … he's superbly bred and has proven time and time again the sort of times he can run. We'll just see."
