It's Good Odds Cobber Will Keep Winning At Richmond

THE untapped Good Odds Cobber will be out to enhance his bulging reputation when he looks to extend his winning run on Wednesday.

Untapped greyhound Good Odds Cobber will be out to enhance his bulging reputation when he looks to extend his winning run at Richmond on Wednesday.

Astute conditioner Frank Hurst isn't in a rush with his exciting chaser Good Odds Cobber who'll be back in action on Wednesday at Richmond.

Hurst resisted the temptation of the heats of the $25,000 Christmas Gift at Wentworth Park on Saturday night in preference of a $4000-to-the-winner provincial fifth grade at Richmond 72 hours earlier.

FIELDS AND FORM RICHMOND WEDNESDAY NIGHT

"I think he's the best dog in this field so with any luck he should win on Wednesday," Hurst said.

“After Wednesday, if he wins, he's still got two more provincial wins so it will be back to Wentworth Park on Fridays.

"We've been taking it easy on him.

"We've been cuddling him. That's why he's not in the $25,000 race on Saturday night.

"The Derby is the race we have our sights on.

"We think he's good enough."

The January 2022 whelp by the great Fernando Bale out of Good Odds Meghan set Wentworth Park alight when taking his record to eight wins from 11 starts when running a slick 29.68 seconds winning a Bulli to Wentworth Park 520m Final at his most recent outing on November 25.

"I think he can still improve off what he's run at Wenty," Hurst said. "He's only had two 500s in his life.

"He went 29.98 and then he ran 29.68. I honestly think he's a 29.3 dog.

“(Good Odds) Harada did something similar early in his career and got down to 29.3.

"This dog is not even two until January next year so I see no reason why he's not going to be running 29.3s.

“He might even go better, who knows."

The National Derby heats will be run on Friday, January 12 with the final to be contested eight days later on Saturday with the winner of the Group 1 age classic taking home $75,000.
