TONY Rasmussen admits Victa Grosso has lived in the shadow of his star littermate Victa Haydn … until Sunday night at Gawler that is.

That's when Victa Grosso overpowered early leader Rosie Red to win the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup (530m) in 30.90.

The son of Fernando Bale and Victa Victoria scored by a length-and-a-half at $6.50 with Victa Haydn three lengths away getting up for third.

Littermate Victa Reid was fifth.

“Fantastic thrill,” said Tony Rasmussen. “We won the race a couple of years ago (2019) with Honcho Monelli but every win in a race like this is wonderful.”

Rasmussen admitted Victa Grosso was his pick of his three finalists to win the Cup which carried $26,000 to the winner.

“(Victa) Haydn has always been the quickest of them right from the start, but this dog is getting up there now,” he said.

It was his 10th win in 29 starts and took his stakes earnings to $58,000.

Victa Grosso had been second in the Group 3 Howard Ashton (to Victa Haydn) and third in the SA St Leger and Gawler Produce (also behind Victa Haydn).

He has now won six of his past eight starts.

Meanwhile, Zipping Walter ($7) saluted in the Gawler Sprint Classic (530m) for trainer Ben Rawlings.

Landing career win number 25, the son of Over Limit ran 22.79 to down Patched ($4.80) by three-quarters-of-a-length.
