Victa Haydn All Set For Angle Park Reopening

TONY Rasmussen has thrown caution to the wind with 12 runners at Angle Park's reopening on Thursday all of which go in without a trial on the track.

TONY Rasmussen has thrown caution to the wind with 12 runners at Angle Park's reopening on Thursday night all of which go in without a trial on the new track.

The premier South Australian trainer believes the reopening may have been a week premature but with the Kings and Queens series on the program he could see why it needed to begin this week.

“The quickest trial I have heard of so far on the new track is 30.51 by a very good dog,” Rasmussan said. “That shows me the track might have needed just a little bit more time to settle.

“But I don't believe the new track will affect dogs that have been to Angle Park before.

“That's why Lisa and I have 12 in on opening night.

“I'm told the new track at Angle Park is very similar to The Meadows. I've always been a fan of Sandown.”

The Rasmussen kennel is headed by Victa Haydn, the Fernando Bale-Victa Victoria dog which has already won the Group 3 Howard Ashton and Gawler Produce.

“I believe he will just wind up late and be too good for them,” Tony said.

“Of the others, they might get a little lost but still must be good chances.”

FIELDS AND FORM ANGLE PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

Rasmussen believes Victa Haydn is his future distance star.

“He's a very, very good dog and so strong,” he said. “But he can be a bit hit and miss at the start.

“We have a very good team at the moment and some very nice young dogs coming through as well.

“When the borders finally open up we will be tripping some of the team around to chase big races.

“The Fernando Bale and Victa Victoria litter is only young but already four of them have become Group dogs. We are very blessed to have this litter.”

Rasmussen and his kennel clients have virtually given up buying tried dogs switching to buying and breeding pups to be reared at the Rasmussen property.

“Yes, I know it is still a gamble with pups, but it is a gamble of our own undertaking,” he said. “I've just bought three of the last straws for Barcia Bale and also have some really well bred pups being reared here.”
