Victa Reid Continues Gawler Cup Tradition

TONY Rasmussen had much to celebrate after Victa Reid grabbed a big victory when ploughing through the mud in the G3 Gawler Cup on Sunday.

TONY and Lisa Rasmussen had much to celebrate after Victa Reid finally grabbed a big victory when ploughing through the mud that was the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup Final (531m) on Sunday night.

“He's finally won a Group race and there has been no more deserving dog of a Group win,” said Tony Rasmussen today.

Tony's wife Lisa trains the son of Fernando Bale-Victa Victoria which scored by three-quarters of a length as a $12 outsider in the final.

He downed Came And Went with a Charlee's Misty a close up third.

“He's been around the money in so many races,” said Tony.

Victa Reid has now started 78 times for 23 wins and 29 placings taking his earnings to $99,000.

And it was back-to-back Gawler Cup wins for his litter, Victa Grosso having won the race in 2021.

“We've won it a few times,” said Tony. “Honcho Monelli won it a few years ago as well.”

The Gawler track was heavy and that played right into Victa Reid's hands.

“It was very boggy along the rails,” said Tony.

“But, he likes to scout a bit wide and that's what won him the race.”

Despite having raced 78 times in a career that started way back in December 2020, Victa Reid is racing as good as ever and there are no thoughts of retirement for him.

“He will carry on racing,” said Tony.

“But it will be around South Australia. We've taken him to Melbourne for a few runs in the past and they are a bit tough for him.”

Victa Reid is a model of consistency.

He has been unplaced just once in his past 12 starts and is as competitive at 700m as he is at 500m.

He had also been a finalist in the Gold Cup last year.
