WA Star Sidelined Following National Sprint

Simply Limelight fractured metatarsals in the National Sprint and, now, WA star Throttle has been sidelined with an injury sustained in the same event.

JUST 24 hours after news broke that Simply Limelight had fractured two metatarsals in the Group 1 National Sprint Final at Wentworth Park on Saturday, WA star Throttle is now sidelined with an injury sustained in the same event.

While nothing appeared amiss with Throttle on the night and he was not lame whatsoever, Dave Robartson found the sprinter to have split a webbing on his near hind foot on returning home.

"The wound surprisingly did not bleed and he didn't limp," Robartson said.

"We treated him with antibiotics and made sure there was no sand or debris in the wound before getting it stitched."

Throttle finished a game fourth in the National Sprint, with the injury most likely to have been sustained when Rïtza Donna edged up to his inside with 150m to run.

"The race got a bit messy before the home turn and it looks like the only place he could have been injured … there's also a slice on the back of his hock but that's something which will heal quickly," Robartson added.

The injury prevented Throttle from contesting Saturday's heats of the Spring Gift at Cannington with Hinto (race four, box two) the kennel's only rep in the Listed feature.

"Hinto also went over to NSW but did not race," Robartson continued.

"Both dogs are only young and the travelling experience seems to have worked a treat. They got home and looked like they'd been to Mandurah and back – not across the country.

"Throttle took everything in his stride and he reminds me a lot of High Earner – it's his calm, sensible temperament.

"High Earner travelled widely and raced against the best and I think it was his good nature – along with being very quick – which kept him at the top for so long."

Not only is the Spring Gift off the table for Throttle, but due to a lack of fitness, the Listed WA Bred Championship heats at Cannington (September 17) will also arrive a little soon for the striking red fawn son of West On Augie.

Maybe, a Mandurah Cup tilt (heats September 30) is on the radar but no risks will be taken before the All Stars at Cannington kicks off in six weeks.

Thereafter, another trip east looms with the spring riches in Melbourne offering great reward – the prize catch being a slot in The Phoenix – offering $1m to-the-winner – at The Meadows on December 17.
