Why Photo Man Is Picture Perfect For Stud
DAVID Brasch delves into why Group 1 Topgun hero Photo Man has all the ingredients to make a raging success at stud.
THE smile still has not subsided from the faces of cousins Dave McKenzie and Gavin Clifton.
The Victorians have been close all their lives and in recent times have tossed in together as a greyhound racing partnership.
Like all good partnerships, they had high hopes.
Neither could have dreamed what was in store when they tossed in a few buck and bought a “roman nosed” pup by Aston Dee Bee from the 12-time winner Amlin Mystique.
That roman nose stood out so much, the cousins had to name something appropriate. They came up with Photo Man. Nothing could have described him better.
And, by the time Photo Man retired to stud recently, he'd had such a “photo” profile he had become a household name among the best greyhounds racing in the country.
His all-the-way win in the Group 1 Topgun, taking on the very best there was about, proved just that.
And, by the time Photo Man retired to stud, the ever-smiling faces of Dave McKenzie and Gavin Clifton had also become common place among the greats of the time.
The G1 Topgun winner started 41 times for 13 wins, eight 2nds and eight 3rds for stakes of $422,000.
He also won the G2 Flying Amy Classic, was 3rd in the G1 Brisbane Cup, G1 Adelaide Cup, G3 Super Sprinters and a finalist in the Million Dollar Chase, G3 Sandown Shootout and G3 Cup Night Sprint.
He ran 29.36 at Sandown, 29.76 at Albion Park, 29.51 at Richmond and 30.40 at Angle Park.
All seven in his litter were winners including Amlin Emperor (12 wins, $58,000) etc.
He is a son of G1 Melbourne Cup winner and champion sire Aston Dee Bee (his progeny have won $29 million).
Photo Man's dam, Amlin Mystique, won 12 races and is a litter sister to El Marny (25 wins, $35,000, dam of Spanish Miss a finalist in G2 McKenna Memorial).
Amlin Mystique is also dam of American Missile (24 wins, $37,000) and Paint Peeler (12 wins, $36,000, finalist G3 Great Chase) etc.
Two recent track stars from this immediate damline include Shintaro Samurai (G2 Hume Cup) and Sth Aust star Air Marshall (Ang Pk TR, Murray Bridge Cup, 3rd Gawler Cup etc).
Photo Man is line bred to the famous litter brothers Hallucinate and Where's Pedro, and has a strong duplication of US sire Fortified Speed.
This is the very same direct damline as Head Honcho, Elite State, Eaglehawk Star each of them sire greats.
In fact, with Elite State the sire of Aston Dee Bee's 2nd dam, it means Photo Man is ultimately line bred to the very same female family.
Dave McKenzie and Gavin Clifton have already been chased down by broodbitch owners about using Photo Man at stud. They have put into place their own breeding plans to include him with bitches of their own going to him.
Photo Man's pedigree lends himself to matings to daughters of Fernando Bale (a MUST for him).
That's because, being a grandson of Barcia Bale and son of Aston Dee Bee, both PROVEN with Fernando Bale, Photo Man brings in a fabulous cross.
But, the fact Photo Man's dam is by El Grand Senor also means much to his chances at stud and linking with Fernando Bale.
El Grand Senor's mother Elgrando Gold and Fernando Bale's mother Chloe Allen are bred on an identical pattern.
The Fernando Bale/El Grand Senor cross is already working extensively.
And, El Grand Senor, a known fabulous source of chase, works well with all manner of bloodlines. These include Banjo Boy, Kinloch Brae (Sennachie daughters will suit Photo Man), Keybow, SH Avatar etc etc etc.
The Collide influence in Photo Man's damline also allows fabulous mating possibilities to bitches with Collision or Cosmic Rumble in their make-up.
That's because Collide is a half brother to Collision and a litter brother to Cosmic Rumble's mother Spiritual Rumble.
Absolutely ideal potential mates for Photo Man will be daughters of Tommy Shelby who is by Fernando Bale and carries a very powerful damline link to Collision and Cosmic Rumble.
The intense Australian bloodlines in Photo Man allows also for any bitches with outcross influences in their make-up.
