Who Wants The Next Sennachie?

REPEAT matings sometimes have a mixed reaction from breeders, but there is no doubting their success. The numbers prove it, writes David Brasch.

REPEAT matings have a mixed reaction from breeders, but there is no doubting their success. The numbers prove it.

Victorian breeder Ron Murch would be the first to admit, “when you are on a good thing, stick to it”.

And that's exactly what he's done.

Ron owns Kinloch Brae ex Punk Rock Lass bitch Rhonda Rocks who has a litter of six dogs and two bitches, whelped in August, by the great Fernando Bale.

Rhonda Rocks, a 29.89 maiden winner at Angle Park at the first of only two race starts, came from a fabulous litter that included Group star Angie Rocks.

Her first litter, also to Fernando Bale, produced nine offspring and to date they have won 64 races and earned $626,000.

Obviously the star is multiple group 1 winner Sennachie (Albion Park TR 29.38, G1 Maturity, G1 Brisbane Cup, G2 Qld Derby etc).

But that first litter also includes such stars as Bailey Rocks, Gwydion, Red Rock and Rock It Fernando.

Since then, Rhonda Rocks has produced litters to My Bro Fabio and Barcia Bale.

The repeat mating to Fernando Bale was a natural.

“I've got $25,000 on the pups,” said Ron.

“Three are already accounted for. They are great looking pups. The early reports on Rhonda's second litter are that some are outstanding as well.”

The mating to Rhonda Rocks is exactly how Fernando Bale does best at stud.

It linked Chloe Allen and Punk Rock Lass who are bred almost identically. They both carry Primo Uno in their pedigree, both bring in Head Honcho, and both have a source of the Wheeler's foundation broodbitch Gail's Beauty.

It also introduced the Gable Dodge/Fortress cross a fabulously successful "nick" in the US. That is because they bring in littermates Lucky Artist and Exception, brother and sister.

Fernando Bale to Rhonda Rocks … a natural.
