Why Harada Is Set For Stud Stardom

BONA fide superstar of the track GOOD Odds Harada goes to stud with sensational prospects as a sire, writes Recorder breeding expert David Brasch.

THE whole world embraced Tracey and Frank Hurst back in October when they became instant millionaires and the joy and elation of such success was there for all to see.

And while they became the human stars of the racing world, it was their brindle dog with the “funny” name of Good Odds Harada who made it all happen … and WOW didn't he make it happen.

GOOD ODDS HARADA'S STUD PROFILE

Good Odds Harada (Collision-Solar Pak by Mogambo) retires to stud a bona fide superstar, just like he was back in October when he smashed the toughest of line-ups to win the second running of the $1 Million Chase at Wentworth Park.

While Tracey and Frank rightfully held the spotlight after that victory displaying the human side of why so many love and embrace greyhound racing with a passion, it was Good Odds Harada who was a force so dominant it was almost frightening.

From the very moment the lids lifted at the start of the $1 Million Chase, Goods Odds Harada gave NOTHING else a chance. He flew out, set up a commanding lead, and downed Shima Shine and Get It Gizmo by lengths.

Get It Gizmo, a few weeks later, won the Group 1 Topgun.

With the retirement of Good Odds Harada he goes to stud with a commanding reputation, not just of being a high class galloper, but one that never shirked an assignment, went wherever Frank thought he could win a race, and took on the very best and beat them.

The Million Dollar Chase glory is not the only proud boast for Good Odds Harada.

Great gallopers have established a stud career on just what Good Odds Harada did on the racetrack without adding a $1 Million Chase.

He also won the Group 1 Dapto Megastar, was second in the G1 National Sprint, G1 Gold Bullion and G3 Xmas Gift, third in the G3 Sandown Shootout and G3 Goulburn Cup.

And, he was a finalist in the G1 Topgun and the Listed Bathurst Gold Cup.

Yes, Frank and Tracey were happy to take their champ wherever they thought they could win a race.

As for his potential stud career, Good Odds Harada has everything going for him.

Way back in the late 1980s, the “Litter of the Century” boasted dogs like Amerigo Man, Walkabout Sid, West Cape, Carnival Boy, Bogenfel, Jet Cruiser and Half Nelson. ALL of them had stud careers.

Good Odds Harada comes from a litter that can rightfully be called the “Litter of the Century” in the 2000s.

His litter includes Feral Franky (24 wins, $482,000), Good Odds Buddy (14 wins, $72,000, 2nd G2 Black Top, finalist G1 Maturity), Good Odds Meghan (12 wins, $41,000, 3rd G3 Ladies Bracelet), Inversion (8 wins, $60,000, 2nd G3 The Miata), Solar Sky (14 wins, $39,000, finalist Bathurst Gold Cup), Freaky Franky (finalist Richmond Riches) etc.

No dog wins the class races Good Odds Harada did without being fast … very, very fast.

That is evident in the times he could run.

Right from the moment he was a pup winning at Maitland in 22.25, he's been able to reel off scorching runs.

Just look at the 29.34 he ran at Wenty to win the $1 Million Chase, or the near record 29.30 at Bathurst, or the near record 29.58 at Dapto, or the 24.61 at Goulburn.

Yes, Good Odds Harada has the natural speed to pass on to his offspring, an asset great sires almost always boast.

The pedigree of Good Odds Harada is a fabulous mix of the very, very best of dominant Aussie bloodlines. By champion sire Collision, his damline is second to none boasting a Hall of Famer, Greyhounds of the Year, and Group class gallopers too many to name.

In fact, the two crosses of Irish legend Waverly Supreme are the only outcross influences in his pedigree and they come in on the fifth line.

Harada's mother Solar Pak produced a first litter, by Fernando Bale, that included a number of Group stars.

Harada's damsire Mogambo has a sister called Flamenco who was mated to Wheeler-bred Turanza Bale to produce champion My Bro Fabio.

This is the damline of Spanish Dance and Marty Hallinan is having great success by doubling and tripling it among those he breeds.

Bombastic Shiraz will be a force for Harada's stud career. He is the sire of Harada's second dam and reinforcing him in pedigree is already proving a success.

There is little Brett Lee or Big Daddy Cool in Harada so reinforcing them via bitches mated to Harada will be a natural.

Daughters of Barcia Bale will be superb. He is out of a daughter of Hallucinate and thus able to link with his litter brother Where's Pedro in Harada's damline.

There are numerous ways to mate Harada.

There is no doubting Australian greyhound racing is easily the strongest in the world. As one of the very best of his era, Good Odds Harada has a walk up start for success at stud.
