Williams Furious With State Of Wentworth Park Track

WA trainer Shayne Williams flies home on Tuesday dejected that his star galloper Iconic Jet did not get the chance to show his best in the National Derby.

WA trainer Shayne Williams flies home on Tuesday dejected that his star galloper Iconic Jet did not get the chance to show his best form in his Group 1 National Derby heat at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Iconic Jet was just one of a number of runners which pulled up with severe abrasions on a pad after the Wentworth Park meeting.

"I was shattered after his run on Saturday night," said Shayne.

"But, he was on three legs after the race after having the injury to the pad.

"And, I've been told by so many other trainers that their dogs did the same."

Mark Delbridge reported three of his kennel's four runners in the Derby heats, Spring Regency, Paw Qwan and Paw Ike all pulled up with pad injuries.

Delbridge won a Derby heat with Paw Oswald which escaped any pad trouble.

Williams was irate and reported Iconic Jet's owners were in the same mood over the injury.

"We expect to race these good dogs on safe tracks," said Shayne.

Williams and his two Derby heat runners will fly back to Perth on Tuesday.

"Iconic Jet will need a spell to get the pad right," he said.

"I have made a complaint about the incident."

Second reserve, WA visitor Italian Stallion, is also believed to be an early scratching from the Derby due to severe pad abrasions.
