Wow She's Fast Set For MDC Onslaught

A shock defeat in a qualifier of the Million Dollar Chase has not dented Kel Greenough’s confidence ahead of tonight’s blockbuster semi-finals.

A shock defeat in a qualifier of the TAB Million Dollar Chase has not dented premier Victorian trainer Kel Greenough's confidence ahead of tonight's blockbuster semi-final round at Wentworth Park.

Greenough will line-up emerging superstar Wow She's Fast as a raging hot favourite in semi-final four where victory alone will secure a place in Saturday week's $1m-to-the-winner decider.

The prolific group 1 winning trainer had initially signalled his intentions to bypass the Million Dollar Chase but following an eleventh hour pivot, Wow She's Fast took her place in a qualifying event last weekend, booking her semi-final place despite being run down late by Perth Cup hero Vice Grip.

"It was a bit of a shock getting run down but she didn't have the greatest lead up to the race and she just ran out of petrol late," Greenough said.

"I had to rush her along to have her ready for the series and in the end the travel and a trial at the track earlier in the week where she got very worked up caught up with her.

"But this week she's come along really well, her coat looks great and her blood results came back acceptable without being superb. She's feeling really good and I'm confident she's ready to run a race on Friday night.

"The six day turnaround isn't ideal but if we qualify there will be a bit more in the tank for the final."

Winner at nine of her 13 starts, Wow She's Fast – a $4.50 second favourite to take out the MDC behind $2.50 top elect She's A Pearl – has enjoyed a remarkable ascension to the top of the Australian sprinting ranks.

Already boasting $937,750 in stakes following epic victories in signature races The Phoenix and Launching Pad, the Victorian starlet is on the cusp of becoming greyhound racing's ninth million dollar earner.

Yet the major milestones may not top there with the potential that Wow She's Fast could surge to almost $2 million in stakes if successful in the MDC.

But if you think the salivating prospect of boasting the sport's greatest ever prize money earner is anywhere near front of mind for Greenough you'd be mistaken.

"You don't give things like that a second thought," Greenough said.

"There's a lot of water to go under the bridge and plenty of good dogs to get past. When you've been doing this for as long as I have you know things can flip in a moment.

"If she happened to pull it off it might make for a nice story but we'll worry about if it happens.

"To have races like the Million Dollar Chase and The Phoenix introduced to the sport has only grown confidence and participation.

"Back in the day we were the poor man's sport having a bet for survival but it's completely flipped now. There's a real confidence in the industry."

Tonight's Wentworth Park meeting which boasts eight semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase (520m) and two heats of the Gold Cup (720m) get underway at 7.19pm.
