Wynburn Lethal Strikes In Launceston Oaks

WYNBURN Lethal continued trainer Ben Englund’s hot run of form in Launceston features with victory in Monday's Tasmanian Oaks Final.

POWERHOUSE sprinter Wynburn Lethal continued Ben Englund's hot run of form in Launceston feature races when saluting the judge first in the Sires On Ice Tasmanian Oaks Final (515m) on Monday night.

Rachael was the punter's pick for the $5,030 all-female decider at $3.10 off box one just ahead of Wynburn Lethal at $3.30 and Amy Cora at $6.

But in another breathtaking Launceston performance, Wynburn Lethal led from go to whoa, scoring by two lengths in a slick 29.79.

Rachael was gallant in defeat to finish second while Amy Cora was 3 ¼ lengths away in third.

Wynburn Lethal, a daughter of Dyna Double One and Wynburn Arrow, has now won 18 of her 37 starts.

"Wynburn Lethal went super, to win a Tassie Oaks is a great thrill," said trainer Ben Englund.

The Englund family share a proud connection in the honour roll of the Sires On Ice Tasmanian Oaks with Ben's father Tom putting the polish on Society Style to win the race 44 years ago.

"It's a great race with a terrific honour roll so to see Wynburn Lethal on that list is very rewarding," Englund added.

Victory in the Oaks now sits alongside Wynburn Lethal's wins in the LGRC Gold Collar, Devonport Breeders Classic, Shane Yates Memorial and Illingworth Classic.

And boasting such a fantastic record in feature events, Englund rates Wynburn Lethal among the best he's trained.

"She is a very gusty chaser," he declared.

"Her biggest asset is that first section split which has enabled her to win these feature races."

Englund says his star performer will most likely target the Group 3 Devonport Chase next month.
