Young Guns The Target For Hugely Exciting Brimstone

HIGHLY promising youngster Brimstone will be aimed at an upcoming Young Guns series at Ipswich after winning there on Tuesday night in a QGOLD race in 30.49.

He downed Jedda Cutlack's classy Ayrton by half-a-length with Spot On Albert in third.

Brimstone (Flying Fired Up-Agame) has started just six times for four wins and a third.

Now trained by Selena Zammit, she is the dog's third trainer in that short time.

“Tracie Hindmarsh had him for the Vince Curry series early in the year,” said Selena's husband Mick Zammit.

“Then Peter McBlane, who bred and owns him, took over his training for a couple of starts.

“We have had the dog for only two runs, a first-up win at Ipswich in 30.49 and Tuesday night's win.

“He's very promising and the Young Guns in a couple of weeks looks a very suitable race for him.”

Brimstone made the Vince Curry Maiden Final but had to be scratched with injury.

Peter McBlane then took over the dog himself and won a Novice at Albion Park in 29.81 with him.

“He was a bit fresh last night,” said Mick.

“It was an even better run that it looked because he had to be a bit of work in the run.

“And, we think he might be an even better dog around Albion Park.

“But, with the Young Guns coming up, we took him to Ipswich to get him going on that track again.”

The Zammits landed a wining double when Another Chance won in 30.48 in another QGOLD race on the program.

Kennel star, track record holder Jay Is Jay, heads to the heats of the $1 million Group 1 Brisbane Cup (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

“Very happy with him,” said Mick.

“He went post to post at Albion Park on Sunday night and that was a very pleasing trial.

“It won't be easy but racing for a million dollars, who would expect it to be.”
