Zipping Inglis Signs Off A Winner

Zipping Inglis has retired a winner after breaking through for a long overdue victory at Sandown Park last night.

Near last out the boxes, Zipping Inglis enjoyed an unimpeded run to the rail and improved to second place through the first turn. He levelled up to early leader Jacqui Shoshone coming off the back straight before taking the lead in the shadows of the post to record a determined victory, much to the delight of trainer Matt Lanigan.

"For the last couple of weeks I've told him if he can win here I'll retire him, and I think he's just been running placings on purpose just so he can keep running because he just loves it, and he just loves travelling, he loves coming to the track," said Lanigan.

"I couldn't be prouder of him. He owes us obviously nothing. I'm just glad that now that he can go out as a winner. It's so good."

At the ripe old age of 4 years and 4 months, it was Zipping Inglis's first win since scoring at Horsham on Boxing Day last year, his first win at city level since winning a heat of the Australian Cup in February 2018, and first win at Sandown Park since August 2017 – some 651 days ago.

The win was a significant one for Lanigan. In addition to providing a kennel favourite with a fitting swansong, it was the 26 year old's first city win since moving from Swan Hill to Anakie in March to further his training career.

"I've always wanted him to go out on top, and to get my first city win since first moving down here as well it's pretty special."

A group 1 Australian Cup finalist, Zipping Inglis finishes his career with 18 wins from 68 starts and $78,511 in prize money, and will now enjoy retirement on his owner's couch.
