Zombie's Dapto Silver Lining

IF trophies were being handed out for consistency, longevity and honesty, Allan Manwaring’s grand chaser Zombie would have a cabinet full of them.

IF trophies were being handed out for consistency, longevity and honesty, Allan Manwaring's grand litter chaser Zombie would have a cabinet full of them.

Set to exit box three in Thursday night's Dapto Silver Collar Memorial Final (520m), Zombie heads into the $4,000 to-the-winner affair on the strength of her gallant second to fastest qualifier Cawbourne Marty last Thursday, the winner scoring in a smart 29.95.

"She takes pride of place here at home, she may not be the cream of the crop, but it takes the best to beat her," said a proud Manwaring in the lead up to Thursday's final.

"She's your typical front runner, she needs to lead and usually see a bit of trouble behind her over 500. She really is remarkable, she's not a genuine 520m bitch up in top class but the day after she races she's bouncing around like she hasn't been around. You'd expect her to be flat."

A daughter of Fabregas and Manwaring's 2013 Group 2 Dapto Puppy Classic winner My Bella Rose, Zombie has raced 71 times for 16 victories and a further 31 placings, amassing prizemoney of $65,000.

"When you go through and look at some of the dogs that have run her down at Wenty, they're some of the fastest dogs going around," pointed out Manwaring.

"We were that proud of her runs in the Ladies Bracelet last month. It took Zipping Bailey to run her down in her heat and the final and she's a freak, she really did do us proud.

"She's been run down by the likes of Mystic Riot, Jamella Jet, Ella Enchanted and Black Forge … and she's always right there, doing her best.

"The best thing about her is the fact that she gives you a 110% every time she goes around. She has right from the start and to think that she's still going like she is after 70 starts is unbelievable."

On Thursday night, Zombie looks a terrific chance in what's a high quality Silver Collar Final, with the second of last week's heats going the way of Fancy Irene for Cliff Bell, the daughter of Brett Lee making it three wins on the bounce in 30.05.

"The way the box draw has fallen I'd be surprised if she doesn't lead but from there it will be a matter of what gets behind her and how close they are," said Manwaring.

"Right from break-in she's shown us she's above average – her first go out of the puppy boxes at Bulli she broke 16 and only the good dogs do that.

"I can't wait to breed with her when the time comes but it looks like she's going to be like her mum. She didn't have a season until she was over four and Zombie hasn't had one yet either."

Manwaring heads to Dapto with three runners this Thursday, Zombie joined by Ashby Kay (race 8 number 8) and Ima Fab (race 10 number 3).

"She's got her box Ashby Kay and she's a better chance than what the betting says," added Manwaring.

"She's trialing a lot better than her races would show. Ima Fab was going gangbusters for me but he hit his head on the boxes at Goulburn a few weeks back and hasn't come out well since. I was hoping he'd sort it out but I'll need to do some box work with him, if he steps he's a chance as well."
