‘Dyna' Double Looms For NZ Nationals Reps

ONLY shocking racing luck is likely to deny a Kiwi dual ‘Dyna’ attack on the August 24 Perth hosted Australian National Sprint and Distance Championships.

ONLY shocking racing luck is likely to deny a Kiwi dual ‘Dyna' attack on the August 24 Perth hosted Australian National Sprint and Distance Championships.

The talented greyhounds Dyna Dave (race 9, 5.24pm AEST) and Dyna Weslyn (race 10, 5.43pm) are in sublime form and it will be a major upset if this pair of Craig Roberts mentored chasers doesn't make the trip from Addington to Cannington to contest the finals as the inaugural New Zealand representatives in the Australian Nationals.

Roberts has put in the hard yards with the Brenden Wheeler owned pair of greyhounds.

He qualified both of them at Addington from where they have gone onto compile very respectable race records.

Dyna Dave delivered a slick Addington 29.67s 520m gallop when he cruised to his effortless NZ Nationals Sprint semi win. He then backed that up with his equally impressive 29.70s win in a heat of the New Zealand Amazing Chase two dog match race series.

The major concern for Dyna Dave in Thursday's $50,000 NZ Nationals Sprint final is not only his tricky six trap draw, but also the possible racing tactics that others drawn close to him may employ.

Dyna Dave certainly isn't fool proof from the traps, although in saying that his most recent race starts has seen him being sighted contesting the early pace.

It is the back end of his races where this March 2016 whelped son of Dyna Villa and Julie Bale is seen at his best when he brings it home in real strong style which is the reason why his career stake earnings currently sits at a tidy $168,872.

Okay, if Dyna Dave does strike early or first turn traffic issues, then who is likely to be poised to capitalize on any misfortune endured by him?

Roberts has Sailor Allen as his back up runner here. He does own early pace which is an asset he must use when he exits from trap seven here.

You have to take a close look at the professional greyhound Nature's Gent from the Angela Turnwald Foxton (North Island) based kennels. This bloke relishes racing around the Addington circuit. He won the 2017 edition of the New Zealand Cup here, plus just six weeks ago he stylishly won the South Island Champs at Group 2 level.

This winner of $195,494 in career earnings is a noted railing chaser, therefore his trap two draw enhances his claims here.

New Zealand's leading conditioner Lisa Cole is venturing south from her Palmerston North based kennels with two contenders who are both making their Addington track debut outings. Trojan Hoarse is a dual Group 1 winner and he'll enjoy hopping away from the ace trap which ideally suits his on-the-pace racing style.

On the other paw, kennelmate Bigtime Rod, who won the Hatrick 520m semi in 30.16s, looks to be up against it from his eight trap draw.

There's no questioning the fact that Dyna Weslyn is an absolute elite stayer.

She is in a class of her own as seen by her strong recent Addington 732m wins.

Back in May this February 2016 whelped daughter of Kelsos Fusileer and Xylia Allen demolished the Addington 732m track record when she skipped through her assignment in a quick 42.65s.

She then proceeded to pick up two Group 1 779m and 732m staying titles prior to delivering his NZ Nationals Distance 43.03s semi win. This girl can deliver slick sectionals and the dual The Meadows 725m winner is poised to book another trip across the Ditch by taking this event out.

Local trainers Dave and Jean Fahey will be seeking to deny her of that opportunity with their pair of stayers. Opawa Hilary has really come of age as a stayer lately and she was bold when delivering her 3.75 length semi second to Dyna Weslyn.

She has since flanked that form by leading all the way over 732m to clock her recent 43.07s 732m win, while she did likewise last Thursday for her 37.73s 645m win here.

Von Strass has compiled a string of recent 732m and 645m minor placings and a similar finish looks best for her in this event.

The Hatrick hosted NZ Nationals Distance semi-final was an absolute humdinger of a 755m race. Just a pair of heads separated the first three place getters in that clash. Bigtime Chloe refused to flinch when she delivered her 45.31s win there for her trainer Mark Goodier.

The run of the race came from the runner up Shooters Hill. He drifted a long way off the pace in this semi for his conditioner Sam Lozell. He wound up massively from his tailed off position to fairly rocket home when finishing just a head behind Bigtime Chloe.

That is the racing style that this huge stayer (37.1kg) adopts – we saw that when he charged home late when he pushed Dyna Weslyn to a head margin in the Silver Collar final (779m).

The Matt Roberts prepared Cawbourne Taylor has tasted Group 1 staying success as she is the current Wanganui Distance title holder. It was her who set up the mid race pace in the Hatrick semi and she gallantly kicked on when ultimately finishing a pair of heads behind Bigtime Chloe.
